I wonder how much he got for when he was thrown out of a convenience store which took less time to threw him out than a world power's government did.

Anyone who sets out to create a career as an “influencer” probably grew up rich because it costs money to get started and it takes a long time to make enough to live. Dude’s only job before going nazi streamer was making instagram and twitter content for Buzzfeed, which I feel like is typical intern poo poo.

Tokimeki Memorial video is insanely good. I was able to finish it a while back and its just man, great video. He does two let's plays and I really appreciated it because its clear we won't ever get this game fully translated in english any time soon, or ever.

She goes to an incredibly weird place by the end of that thread by saying people defending fanfic are the kind of people who drove a pseudonymous trans author to attempt suicide.

Like there are two options there:

a) she doesn't that author and does not know if what she's saying is true, in which case she's using the pain of another person for cheap internet argument points

b) she DOES know the author and that this is true, in which case she's using the personal information of a presumably VERY private person (the author in question, Isabel Fall, basically disappeared after her controversial short story was pulled) for cheap internet argument points

She's wrong. Most fanfiction is bad but so is most amateur writing, it's not somehow uniquely awful in that regard.

People can be annoying when they try and raise fanfic to some holy level of self-expression when so much of it is just lovely porn, but like, whatever? Who cares!!

She’s wrong.

You can learn so much from fan fiction that you can use for original works.

You don’t have to create a setting or characters but you do have to develop them and push them so you can learn structure, character development and growth, as well as pushing the property in a way that feels exciting.

So when you sit down to write your own thing you know the most important pieces and it’s a lot easier.

Also it’s fun.

I'm truly shocked that a field rife with amateur writers is full of amateur writers, and that bad writers immersed in a genre of bad writers learn from each other how to be worse because it's what the genre fans expect and want from them.

I am, of course, talking about ancient aliens theorists.

It's especially funny when several of her published works are openly "inspired by" or are "retellings of" other works.

poo poo I mean Vince Gilligan sent in his X-Files fan fics and got a job working on the show.

Also if you're getting hired to be a writer you have to write a fan fiction anyway to see if you could jump into someone elses world and be able to work inside if it.

He really more did straight remakes than fanfic. You know the Italian original of Othello was just too racist for the modern day.

I mean, even without taking into account how the practice of retelling and rewriting stories is part of the literary canon, I'm not sure what especifically makes fanfic that much worse of a breeding ground for writers other than maybe having an audience that is too positive (if they like your ship, anyway), or if it really matters - most people suck at writing anyway.

kind of a shitty wizard...

I mean fanfic has been always seen as a hobby full of crazy teen girls with their mary sues, so acknowledging that a lot of the hate towards it comes from society's weird need to despise the things teen girls like is pretty important. It's ultimately like literally everything, most of it is poo poo but there's still some good stuff out there.

I mean, go to a writers’ workshop and you won’t like what you read any better. It takes lots of time spent reading and writing to get to where you can write something people will want to read, and even then you have to be pretty clever in some regard. But people write for many reasons and that’s great and they should. Professional quality is not really a fair standard to apply to someone’s hobby or social activity, especially if they’re kids.

Of course then there’s that wolf rape porn lady from Lindsay’s video last month.

Just like with other amateur fiction that's the responsibility of their friends and people in same writing community. Or I guess if they're really into it, someone they're paying.
