Nope, it is not even close to something like Hollow Knight or even Sundered. It only superficially resembles the genre because it has the 'find item, open new route' sort of mechanic, but it feels more like a key than a new means of traversal. You literally can't even jump, Ori this is not If you're only interested in the gameplay, I'd stay far away, there are plenty of games that do what this game does far better. If the setting and weirdness are appealing though, I'd check it out. You can definitely see if you dig it inside the refund window, a first playthrough is probably ~6 hours or so?

Nah, I think I'm good. Thanks for explaining, but I think that sounds like it's a very straightforward "probably not for me." Maybe it'll be in a bundle someday, I might give it a shot then.

Check out The Eternal Castle as well. It's pretty short - I finished it in 2,5hrs, though there's a new game+ and some hidden stuff, but the style and music is out of this world. The visuals are also pretty cool for being 2-bit color, it's like a super stylish synthwave music video.

On the subject of Metroidvanias, I've recently enjoyed Cathedral which can best be described as a Shovel Knight take on the genre. Combat isn't especially complex, but the exploration and secret stuff is really well done. Edit: Oops, thought this was the general Steam thread. Cathedrals still worth a look though. I've been trying to get into this but I feel like I'm missing something with the melee combat, I keep getting ruthlessly destroyed. Is this a case where my approach is wrong and I need to be wholesale avoiding combat in the screens I get wiped on (thinking the disco/danceclub early on for example) or have you got any tips that might help?

It's been a while so I don't remember if there's some trick to the disco part, but combat is pretty straightforward - you should be able to find a weapon somewhere nearby and just mash through them. If you do the city level first (the top right one), there's an item that boosts your melee damage there (and another one for stealth).

i tried playing this one but from all i could tell you could only use mouse and it turn me off instantly, but maybe i am a dummy who missed something. also i don't think it had the jets yet which are my favorite lol. there is something satisfying zooming around a jet fighting mechs.

The game involves bluffing your way through the closing monologue of a cozy mystery, without revealing that you have no idea whodunnit.

Instant buy for me after playing PataNoir. I already love and play a lot of IF, but PataNoir was on Emily Short levels of clever. I also really love the GUI and could spend hours just turning the pages, I wish I had a touch-screen just for that.

Their previous game, Coloring Pixels, gets my laptop all heated up every once in a while. It's also extremely slow to load and to exit. I think they're just not great at optimization.

Edit: VSync is in the options, pull the FPS slider down and the fans should stop.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1366540/Dyson_Sphere_Program/ Dyson Sphere Program has been released. It looks interesting - like some sort of Factorio but with planets and alot more automation.

"Factorio but you can literally eat planets" sounds like a game I would want to play, but I don't think I'm up for another EA title right now. Looks neat, though. Not a lot of games that will actually let you build a Dyson Sphere to scale.

I'm really digging Dyson Sphere Project but I've been on a big Factorio/Satisfactory kick recently. The visuals are great and the camera perspective is basically perfect for this type of game. While it is very similar to Factorio so far I haven't even made it off the first planet and it feels like a lot of the real meat of it is going to be setting up interplanetary logistic chains

I never got into Factorio but Satisfactory being very chill with not really much in the way of threats and no penalties for building wrong means it is the ideal relaxing game for me. I don’t care as much for building games that punish you if you go down a wrong path (ie costing resources when you disassemble stuff or closing off research avenues). Is Dyson Sphere game pretty chill too?
