they absolutely could have done something like The Athletic with that name if they're smart, but I don't think they're smart enough to do that.

You’d think that the NBA would be encouraging anyone who wants to willingly watch Timberwolves games without making them jump through hoops

The NHL is better at this, I've watched Red Wings games while traveling on NHL.TV.

This is probably objectively true but the only regional sports channels we get in our package are Marquee and NBCS Chicago, and we always got WGN, so as a Cubs family we never lacked for baseball.

but also I stopped caring about baseball the nanosecond after the Cubs won the World Series because my dad also stopped caring, the Cubs at this point are actively trying to drive people away, and basketball is just superior to baseball in every way

they were live-tweeting the news and timeline of Kobe's death the same way Ari Fleisher does 9/11 every year. It was dumb as hell.

he has consistently blamed fear of AIDs for girls not wanting to sleep with him in the late 80s/early 90s

Part of Bill’s entire origin story is that he was an 80s latchkey kid and was essentially raised by HBO; it just seems impossible that he wouldn’t know that the 80s were the apex of nudity in film. I guess the answer is either a) he’s comparing the amount of nudity on HBO in the 1980s to the amount of nudity available on the entirety of the internet today or b) he’s seen roughly 8 movies released after 1997 and just assumes the amount and explicitness of sex in mainstream movies has continued to rise linearly since the erotic thrillers of the early 90s.

So this launched today and it's 6-8 bucks a month depending on the plan, which isn't that bad. Michael Pina's the only guy I like there that I can think of off-hand, so I'll probably stick with The Athletic and hope that with LaMelo in town they see the value in hiring a loving Hornets beat writer

Would be nice to have access to the Vault, which was one of the best resources on the internet before they gutted it, but whatever

It's an unbelievable story but I am completely hung up on the fact that he called 911 and the response was the cops showing up and kicking his door down guns drawn because they thought he was trying to ambush them.

ACAB. Every interaction a cop makes with the people they are sworn to protect is a potential ambush. They are paranoid trigger-happy cowards.
