Julet Esqu posted:Yeesh, I don't know how long it's been in reality (nor will I check), but I feel like Mary's been yammering on about her smoked salmon from Freda's Market for ages. It's like while we were watching Saul walk his dog, she was a part of some intense smoked salmon related plotline that we weren't made privy to and maybe she even saved Freda's from closing down and she is now taking a Mary Worth Victory Lap that we have no context for and that Saul is intruding upon. The only possible answer is to restart posting the strip from the beginning. This is pretty much how a good sound effects engineer would work. A nice ripe melon or gourd dropped from six feet makes for an excellent body-hitting-the-ground effect. A large bag of Jell-O also works if you are worried about making a mess, but it's not as concussive. (For some really excellent horror audio, check out a Canadian series called Nightfall and one episode in particular called The Repossession. The end sequence is incredibly disgusting and involved an sfx artist moving his hand underneath the raw skin of a dead chicken to start.)

For proper emotional disconnect end the episode with this and immediately cut to the Archers theme.

My parents did this on purpose when buying cars. Mom's the researcher so Dad would distract the salesman while she checked things out and took notes, then ambush him with the serious questions and haggling. Dad would just smile and be his friendly self and let the assumptions do all the work, I think he said only once did the salesman pay attention when they said she was getting it. Out of *counts on fingers* seven times?

Oof. I know of a few folk who could tell similar tales and it ain't pretty. On a lighter note, good news, everyone! As of today, I've managed to wrangle an English translation of a Spirou periodical, Jerome K. Jerome Bloche's first adventure! It's a nice, quick-paced adventure, and I reckon I could start this weekend.
