My old department manager is gone. Maybe forever? Who can say. The new one will be here in a few days.

I asked about him, to the one person that knew him, an old timer, the last man standing ( besides me ) in the department. I said, "How is he?"

"Huh?"

Cut to the chase. "Is he a prick?"

The old timer paused, then kind of shrugged and said, "Kind of." Apparently, before he left our store, he got mad at the store manager for being herself. See, she loves to ask people stupid questions on the radio. She'll also call you back to her office to ask you a stupid question she could have asked on the radio, like, 'are you filling the meat case' or 'are you doing X'. It's the most pointless kind of micromanagement.

So one day she interrupted our manager to-be while for probably the tenth time that day and paged him to the front of the store, to ask him if he was doing the thing he was doing, and he gave her both barrels. Just a five minute tirade, yelling at her in front of the entire store, customers and associates, to the point where she started crying. Then he walked back into the meat room, looked at the old timer, and said, "gently caress. I think I'm fired."

And then he was transferred.

It's odd that she'd bring him back to her store since she is for sure the person who would never, ever forget that kind of slight.

My work started signing people up for the Covid vaccine. I’m surprised my work is paying for it. I was fully prepared to pay for it.

The real test is going to see how they handle the upcoming $15 minimum wage (if it ends up going through). I’m expecting hours to get massacred, even with how short handed we are.

Two hours before an eight hour shift ends, assistant manager asks, "Did you do lunchmeat?"

Me, who has filled milk ( twice ), run dairy, and wrapped about a hundred pounds of steaks: "no."

"The store manager wanted it done."

Shrug. "The store manager wants a lot of things."

We're running a department that had five people with two. One of the two is on an eighty hour week. I'm doing forty and closing every night ( which I am extremely salty about ). Expecting everything to be done like normal is beyond stupid and even the assistant manager knows it.

I am this tired:

The current plan is to refuse and get fired. My second job told me to come in to get trained for more positions tomorrow on my normal day off if I get canned at the grocery store. Even if I don't get fired I'm turning in my two weeks notice in the morning.

Yesterday was a really bad night and i don't want to go in to work today ahhhh

Last night the metric for who dealt with customers was who had cried the least :( just really rough all around. Everyone's going through it and tbh I'm surprised nobody quit. The whole department feels like we are not being listened to by management, which is usually not a problem here but lately.... Eh. It feels like the workload of the whole place is dropped in our laps, and then we get chewed out for inconsequential things. There's also a lot of grumbling that out work is put under a microscope by people who haven't done this job and don't know what its like.

My work is usually really great and these are problems that have cropped up in maybe the past month, nothing really before that. I don't know if I want advice or I'm just venting, it was just a really bad night.

Also i was supposed to train people on stuff last night but lol, just lol if you think that happened. Our other lead just peaced like an hour into his shift, so i was two people last night along with being the store counselor/babysitter. gently caress meeeeeeeee

When you're applying to work at a big box retail chain like target or HEB, do you gain anything from applying for multiple positions at the same store? I was looking at this one Target location, they have three positions open, I applied for the first one. But the application included a lot of "Would you also be willing to work in literally any other position?' questions, so I'm wondering if I'd gain anything from applying to the other two

Probably doesn't hurt. From the company I work with if they're going multiple casual positions they just pool them all together anyway, what department you actually get doesn't always seem hugely relevant to the one you applied for.
Might not do anything but they won't get pissed if you apply multiple times. With starting positions you're basically just hoping you put yours in near the top of the pile because I'm confident they don't view all the applications.

But yeah if you chuck down you're available for anything and you're free weekends they'll be thirsty for that.

I actually tried to do this with AMC on Tuesday, but the time it would have taken for me to get the wire transfer through and that I needed to hold the stocks for a minimum of three days before selling probably would have erased the fifty bucks I was willing to gamble with. We probably dodged a bullet by not being able to get in on it and were too late anyway.

I tried to buy 15 when it was 5 bucks, of course I ordered at 1:10 pm... western time. And the markets are eastern time. If it went through and I sold yesterday I coulda made 200. Say you went to a casino, stood next to a roulette wheel without placing a bet, and watched it land on 13. Would you beat yourself up for not having bet thirty bucks on that number?

Your chances of getting in at the very bottom of the right meme-stock run up and then calling and getting out at the very top are likely a lot worse than the 37-to-1 of calling a single number bet on an American roulette table.

Something about retail makes it so workers will resent other workers for getting off. My coworker had a ankle sprain and its been tough because his doctor told him he basically could lift heavy things in a construction supply store. It is not his fault but i still find myself grumbling and thinking "he might be faking it to get out of door deliveries " i think its awful of me to even think that .
