Hey I've made some pretty good Skyrim mods. I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bo7oU6qNae4 Edit: Terrible snipe, besides, I believe both RobCo Certified and Cirosan's Classic Overhaul (Not to mention Jsawyer itself) are all Goon-made.

I dont think Jsawyer really counts. I'd still be down to make the zybourne clock in New Vegas, but I'd want to have something to present first rather than jump into an ill considered on-the-fly sales pitch.

Max Wilco posted:I don't know this is as bad as Hunt Down the Freeman (I didn't play HDtF, though it looked like a broken mess and you had to pay for it). The Frontier seems like it had a lot more effort put behind it, but it seems very on-rails, and tonally, it seems all over the place with its content. The NCR campaign is pretty bad but you can bail on it pretty much immediately. There's still cool stuff to find in the world, and I liked walking about the parts of Portland that actually recognizably look like Portland. It's not 100% a mess like HDtF is, it would be a lot easier to write off if it were. Even the NCR campaign, which is a big dumb Call of Duty campaign, is impressive from a technical standpoint at times.

Wherever I hear goon and modding my mind always jumps to the godawful final fantasy 6 romhack that filled it with poo poo memes and references to SA. It drags the median quality down into the loving gutters.

From a modding discord, but apparently the pedo did a ton of work on this mod, to the point where the mod apparently can't function without his contributions.

Well maybe they can take another seven years, properly vet the content, and release something good.

Well, the torrent link from a few pages back is still up, and I was downloading it, but then I saw that it's lacking a hotfix, and if that video was anything to go off, the mod will bug out pretty frequently. Plus, my internet keeps crapping out while trying to download it. I think I'll just wait until when (or if) it gets reposted or added to Steam.

There was 3 years between Enderal for Skyrim being released and Enderal for Skyrim being released on Steam, and that near had universal acclaim when it first came out. (they did add an expansion pack and what not for steam, but I don't think it was a ton of extra content compared to the initial release).

Are you sure? I remember playing the early public releases for Black Mesa from moddb years before it hit Steam. It was definitely playable up to at least On A Rail for some time.

It's been a really long time but I seem to recall that the mod went through a few early public releases before going into "when it's done" hell for years. Something like 2008-2012? And in that period there were no public releases at all, and the next time there was a publically released build, it was in 2012 with the version that would go live on Steam just a few weeks later.

Arcsquad12 posted:Are you sure? I remember playing the early public releases for Black Mesa from moddb years before it hit Steam. It was definitely playable up to at least On A Rail for some time. From Wikipedia: quote:The first standalone version of Black Mesa was released as a free download on September 14, 2012.[16][17] This contained remakes of all Half-Life's chapters except the final chapter set on the alien world Xen, which the team intended to rework for inclusion in a future release, as Xen in the original Half-Life was often considered its weakest part.[18] The development team estimated that the initial release of Black Mesa gave players eight to ten hours of content to complete.[18] Black Mesa's initial release coincided with the launch of Valve's Steam Greenlight program which allowed users to vote for games to be put onto the Steam storefront. Black Mesa became one of the first ten titles to be voted on by fans and approved by Valve to be included on Steam through Greenlight.[19]

Max Wilco posted:From Wikipedia: Yeah, it was the 2012 version that got a Greenlight release a few weeks later, and while it wasn't technically done since it was missing Xen, it was hyped up the gills all the same. Then in 2015 it was changed from a free standalone mod to a commercial product, but it had already had its storefront page for three years at that point.

That expression conveys how I (and the mod developers, by the sounds of it) feel about the Frontier right about now. Avatar size for someone who wants an avatar, I guess: - I think (I'm not sure) but that audio may possibly be from a (now privated) video talking with the devs. Max Wilco fucked around with this message at 04:55 on Jan 28, 2021 |

2021 continues to be a year. I honestly do feel bad because there's some Gamebryo wizardry going on in the mod and it absolutely speaks to the talent some of the creators have. And it all implodes because of poor writing and a pedophile dominating the discourse. EDIT: Ehh, maybe not. I don't want to kick them while they're down by reminding them of failure. I'll just laugh as more of the writing is revealed through LPs. Arc Hammer fucked around with this message at 05:09 on Jan 28, 2021 |

Look poor judgement and a lack of critical second opinions on the mod's finished state is one thing, and should be rightfully mocked because eeesh. I don't think "guy who was revealed to draw MLP child porn is also one of our lead mod devs" was on anybody's bingo card. Do we know if he was also the guy who wrote all the fetishes into the mod?
