They make fantastic pets, they bond to you very closely and are really cuddly and playful and you can train them to do all sorts of things...you just have to know what you're getting into and know they're a lot of work and educate yourself (like you should for any pet, but lots of people assume you pick up a dog or cat and plop some cheap food down and call it a day).

I'd really like to have a pair, but right now I live in a studio apartment with a cat who's very energetic and loves to get into everything and it just feels unsafe to have a small critters about. I also, even if I found an enclosure I was sure he couldn't open, feel like they'd be really stressed having a predator watching them all the time because I really don't have any place to put them where the cat can't go.

So I'll just stick to picture and cute videos' for now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSL0vtRrTYk

Like you said, all pets are a a lot of work and responsibility and part loving animals is knowing when you don't have the ability to take proper care of them.

All hail the queen!
That video makes me a little sad, that's basically the same tiny cage my two came in when I accidentally rescued them. That is way, way too small for those little guys :smith:, they really need a big tall "flight cage", and that little thing should just be a travel cage for transporting them. Unfortunately that's the cage a lot of pet shops sell with gliders in their standard package deal.

She seems to give them plenty of time out of there so it's not too awful, but like you said....if you don't have the space to do it properly you should hold off.

I had the pleasure of petsitting for a friend that owned sugar gliders once. I got peed on exactly once in a two week period but otherwise it was lots of jumping around, exploring the room-sized play tent they had, and getting vigorous cuddles from two of them while numbers three through five flitted about the place and jumped in my hair

Definitely not for everyone, that's for sure. I'd love to have some again, but at a minimum I'm waiting until we're settled in a house and have more space to keep them farther away from the bedroom. Even if they don't bark at night they still make quite a bit of noise with their toys and stuff. They also have a distinctive odor that isn't great if you're not used to it, they just mark everything with their scent glands...would be nice to keep that better contained in a room away from the main living area next time.

I got a letter from the government the other day
opened it, read it
it said they was bitches

There's a theory that humans are more than anything else domesticated chimps.

When we domesticate an animal, they tend to take on two important traits. They become more social and less aggressive, and they keep infant physical characteristics of the ancestral species into adulthood. Dogs look and act a lot more like wolf puppies than adult wolves

And baby chimps have bigger eyes, more prominent noses, and most of their hair is on their heads

She is! She just got a bath a few days ago, so her coat is even softer than usual. I do try to use her as a pillow on occasion, it never really works very well as she just tries to lick my face every time I rest my head on her.
