How did they enrage Arenado? e: nevermind, I just read that dude’s article in the Athletic. I was not aware of all the bad blood between Arenado and the owner. MrMojok fucked around with this message at 07:08 on Jan 30, 2021 |

Top prospect lists are coming out. It's a tough year for evaluating prospects because the minors were cancelled, so most of them didn't really play in 2020. Some top prospects saw action at the alternate sites, or the fall instructional league. A few were called up for the abbreviated MLB season, and some excelled (Ian Anderson, Sixto Sanchez, Ke'Bryan Hayes) while others looked not ready for the majors (Casey Mize, Joey Bart). Everyone's hoping for a full MILB season in 2021, but there's been talk about delaying it. Here's the MLB.com top 100: https://www.mlb.com/news/2021-top-100-prospects-list-breakdown Breakdown by team quote:Top 10: And Keith Law's top 100 for the Athletic (paywalled): https://theathletic.com/2338178/2021/01/28/keith-law-top-100-prospects-2021/ quote:Top 10: Giants have 4 players on both lists, and several others who could move up if they play well this year. Lots to be excited about. Joey Bart drops a bit. Maybe that's not fair, he was rushed last year, but w/e. Giants signed Curt Casali to back up Posey so there's no guarantee we see Bart in 2021. They're calling Marco Luciano our top prospect now, and while he is just 19, this guy murders baseballs. https://twitter.com/Prospects365/status/1322943949523374082

am i crazy thinking arenado is overvalued? yes, you make this deal if you're stl--no question. and it makes them the favorite in the central this season. but dude's been having some shoulder issues and isn't young. furthermore, aren't his away stats pretty average? again, he's great, and that deal is absurd. but i don't see him being this crazy force for years to come. too much mileage, and i'm not sure his road stats support him being a superstar in a new park.

Pache being that high up for the Athletic is insane to me. Like I love Pache, but there's no way in hell he'll outperform Kelenic long term.

Pache's ceiling depends on just how good his glove is—he's by consensus the best outfield defender to emerge in quite some time, but it's tough to project exactly what that would mean in terms of productivity.

Williams used to actually be pretty okay and he's only 28 so there's no reason to assume he's just flat out cooked. He's not in the tier of guys I wish the Cubs were targeting, but among that tier I actually like him as one of the more intriguing options. Way better bet than giving Rodon $3M to pitch 30, 5 ERA innings before his arm explodes for the umpteenth time.

Average FB velos of the (presumably) Cubs starting five: Hendricks: 87.8 Davies: 86.9 Mills: 90.2 Alzolay: 94.7 Williams: 91.9 Oh and also there's not a single lefty in that whole group. 10/10 rotation construction Jed.
