If you groom any of your students it is creepy. Date Shamir, Catherine, Manuela, Seteth, or Jeritza only. Maybe Rhea but that has it's own giant pile of yikes.

Or Edelgard. A. She's the emperor. B. she's already massively into Byleth. C. Gay Adrestian rights.

You should not encourage silly schoolgirl crushes. Edelgard should get over Byleth and marry Dorothea.

Polyamory. Dorothea absolutely deserves going from homeless street orphan to Empress-Queen.

Clawtopsy posted:no marrying hubert (especially gay marrying hubert) is okay Wait, you can gay marry Hubert? Looking on the wiki it says he can't S-support with male Byleth... but his "married to Byleth" slide also uses suspiciously gender neutral language for both of them. Is it like, if you A-support him as a guy and never S-support anyone else? if so, drat. Might have to pick between Revolutionary Princess Edelgard and Sinister Minister Hubert, that's a tough call. Also Petra and Dorothea belong together and that's all there is to it, sorry.

Petra/Ashe is also super cute and i saw it first, so.

I just started a maddening playthrough. There's a weapon triangle now? How does it work? How do bows and gauntlets fit in, and is there a magic circle also? How does that work? Googling only gives me articles about how there isn't a weapon triangle, and adding maddening to the search didn't reveal anything either.
|
# ? Feb 2, 2021 04:57 |

That would be because there isn't a weapon triangle. Maddening doesn't change any mechanics besides exp gain, enemy strength, and reinforcements. Where did you even hear that

Enemies on Maddening often have "Breaker" skills that sort of approximate the weapon triangle, though. Like an enemy with Spear Breaker is much harder to hit with a spear. You can check enemy skill lists to see when those skills are in play.

It just seemed like it was easier or harder to hit enemies when using the appropriate weapon but I guess there are just that many enemies with breaker skills. And since there's just one tomebreaker skill, that means there's no magic trinity. This explains why it seemed so inconsistent and why I couldn't find any info explaining it.

oh yeah breakers are one of the skills liberally spread around enemy classes. not everyone has them, it tends to be the weapon specialist classes like warrior, swordmaster, paladin etc.

# ? Feb 2, 2021 06:56 |

Breakers are fairly common, but not really in the early game. Hit rates are generally pretty shaky on Maddening so get used to using a lot of combat arts.

and get hit +20 on everyone you possibly can as a bonus archer is now one of the best early game classes possibly anyway so it putting all your physical units through it is doubly good

Even if you don’t want the archer class, give a bow to anyone with decent strength; they come in handy enough for this to be worthwhile. As it turns out, there’s a reason Fire Emblem doesn’t usually give every unit the power to use bows for free. I actually really like how gambits play in Maddening; they’re powerful enough that you quickly learn who has good Charm and who doesn’t.

It's generally a combination of just general weapon traits (swords are accurate, axes are more powerful, etc.) and you likely have Sword Prowess on something on that unit that's maining a sword.

Where do the ashen wolves fit in this? They're technically speaking not your students but random hobos who agree to help you with your classes, kind of like the faculty staff when you recruit them.

Byleth is 21 at the beginning of the game. Most of the students are 16 - 19. Exceptions are Mercedes (22), Lysithea (15), and Petra (15). Jeritza is 21. Cyril is 14. Shamir is 25, and Catherine is 27. Deltasquid posted:Where do the ashen wolves fit in this? Constance is 18. Hapi is 20. And, of course most everyone has a birthday pre-timeskip. So, they're all 6+ years older by the end of the game. Edit: Also, Manuela is 34 and Hanneman is 51 which is waaaaaay farther apart than I originally thought. I thought Manuela was in her 40s. Byleth also doesn't actually know exactly how old they are, according to their support chain with Seteth, because as much as Jeralt loves his kid he's really cartoonishly inept at the whole fatherhood thing (on top of probably wanting to keep them as in the dark about their origins and the circumstances of their birth as possible due to grief about Sitri or fear of Rhea).

OK, so I'm marrying Edelgard apparently lol. Which I interpret as meaning that I'll be adopting all the other Eagles as my children. Yeah, Taitlean Fields was rough. I blundered through it at unnacceptable cost and quit without saving. Looks like I'll have to start thinking again. Maybe tight formations against one big unit at a time? I'm glad to see that Rhea is absolutely just as much of an edgelord as Edelgard and I'm starting to think that she's literally the woman in the opening cutscene. fakeedit: Rhea is Drama Girl from Fat Dog Mendoza

Check the movement ranges on the enemies on that map. The ones who can't move are the ones who will turn into big monsters; kill them as soon as you get close to them!

I think the low-key best Hubert moment is if you make him a dancer. It's just the one line, but I choose to read it as him just being completely baffled that people genuinely like him, and it makes him happy in a way he doesn't comprehend.
