Right now I just miss people so much. I miss doing bits in bars with my friends and putting a dumb song on the jukebox and having people tell me my clothes are stylin'. Yesterday I was remembering the time my friend and I went to a bar just off campus and struck up a conversation with someone that was about to head back to the South loving Pole for work and I started getting teary-eyed. I almost get where they’re coming from because a household like mine doesn’t really need a stimulus check - both of us here have been fully employed throughout the pandemic and any money that comes in is either getting donated or stuck in a savings account, so it’s not really making it into the local economy. But the process of figuring out who exactly would get what is so onerous and will cost so much money and time that it’s just incredibly myopic. When the R governor of West Virginia is out-lefting you by saying who cares how much it costs, just get people the help they need, you’re really loving up what should be a slam dunk.

Every single reporter* seems to highlight the best response to that proposal - how the hell can you require people to use their 2019 tax returns when there was no pandemic? I imagine there are quite a few folks who bartend or wait tables at nicer spots that would be over the $50,000 a year mark but now are otherwise straight part-time, bringing home half that. Those folks need the money.

As requested in Jackbox, hashbrown casserole recipe: 32 ounces frozen shredded hash browns defrosted ½ cup melted butter 1 10 ¼ ounce can of cream of chicken soup (or cream of cheddar) 1 pint sour cream ½ cup onion finely chopped 2 cups colby cheese grated ¼ teaspoon pepper Instructions: Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl reserving ½ cup of cheese for topping. Place in a greased 9×13 casserole dish and top with reserved cheese. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until hot and bubbly.

I keep forgetting about Jackbox Tuesdays. I've restarted weekly Zoom sessions with my students, 6 and 6:30 on weekdays, and then I've got to figure out dinner. I need to put Jackbox on my calendar to remind me, since I don't get to catch up on this thread until late in the evening. I was also preoccupied since I decided to watch Groundhog Day tonight for some reason.
