I'm not sure it was a huge mistake anymore now that the Arenado thing went through... but declining that option without a for sure Arenado deal was dumb as hell at the time. Edman to 2B, Carp to the bench. Not sure how much is lost going from Edman --> Wong. I know I was very mad about the whole Wong thing (and I still love him) buuuut it has worked out I feel, as Wong was out after this season anyways. Anyways, great deal for the Brewers, and I'm glad I still get to see Wong play as I'm from the Milwaukee area

With the Twins https://twitter.com/DanHayesMLB/status/1357095069434658816 e: conflicting info but I think it's a 1.25m buyout on the second year to give the one year guarantee of 6.25 https://twitter.com/Feinsand/status/1357094987033423876

I guess he wants to keep going for awhile, but I think he had requested his release from the Braves last spring? https://twitter.com/mlbtraderumors/status/1357120143705399298?s=20

Guys with that much MLB time usually get opt-outs in spring/early in the season starts if it looks like they're gonna get stuck in the minors which I assume is what happened.

My favorite Raul memory was him hitting a lot of dingers at 41. 29 home runs was 3rd best for his career.

He does seem like he'd be prideful enough to have opted out to avoid being held down but nothing ever came out suggesting that. Honestly, even if ends up not being able to hack it at all, he'd probably retire since he almost did when the Mariners bullpenned him.

Felix is also pretty well off, has kids, and probably didn't see the point in risking his health on a minor league contract for the Braves.

Felix sneaking into the Braves rotation and getting to play in the playoffs finally? (I'm pretending he made the post season roster.) : Cool and good. A year older Felix likely making the rotation for a terrible Orioles team and then getting lit up by AL East teams in their parks? : Ugh. Probably gonna be depressing.

I really wonder what a year off will do for Felix's arm. He's probably gonna gain a few ticks on his fastball. If that's the case he likely gets traded to a contenter middle of the season.

Everybody wins; Bauer gets his 1-year deal, and everyone else gets schadenfreude when the Mets medical team destroys his arm.

What would happen if a charity-minded player wanted to sign a deal where they get like $5 million and the team donates $5 million to UNICEF? I assume that would still count towards the team's luxury tax.
