I've got like 20 pages of thread to catch up on but right around Christmas I sold my Hiace and last night picked up a couple Suzukis:

1979 Carry Wide 550
2 stroke 3 cylinder
4spd
Showing ~30000km unconfirmed. My guess is a 5 digit odometer that's rolled over.

Auction Sheet posted:

seat ripped, full repaint, undercarriage surface rust, aftermarket suspension & wheels, bed/tailgate scratches dents & surface rust

Inspector posted:

Starts, revs & idles fine. No major vibration or noises. Some seepage around oil seals, nothing dripping. Aftermarket (wider) wheels. Aftermarket suspension. Tires have good tread. Tailgates open & close fine. Clutch & gear shift fine. No tobacco smell. Some rips in seat. Headliner and door cards appear to be replacements. Appears to be well maintained. Inspector's final comment was "good to sell as is."

1993 Wagon R
660cc NA 3cyl
AWD
5spd
38000km confirmed

Auction Sheet posted:

5 speed, AC, winter tires, one tire flat, exhaust leak, interior dirty, some scratches

Inspector posted:

Engine starts one shot. Idles & revs fine no major vibration or noises. No leaks. Few spots of surface rust here & there. Front passenger tire flat needs replacing. Doors & rear gate open fine, rear gate dampers hold. Slightly dirty in cargo area. No rips or cracks, no tobacco smell. Shifts into gear fine, clutch feels good. AC blows cold. All electrics working, no check lamps. Muffler has a small rust hole.

Exceptionally clean 1991 Toyota Hilux SR Double Cab LN107 pickup. Four doors and a back seat, diesel, 5 speed manual, 4WD, AC. 131,000 km, around 81,500 miles. Not really a fan of those seats but that's a problem with me, not the seats. Truck was originally white as well so no idea if it has been repainted but it's certainly been taken care of. Believe this one has IFS up front if the specs for it's chassis ID are to be believed. I'm feeding into the classic Toyota pickup bubble and I won't stop.

Also cleaned up the wheels and put on a new fresh set of tires on the stripey Prado:

Is there normally a delay in processing at the port? What would a realistic timeframe be to send the transport to pick up?

Wait till it gets customs released, that way you know for sure it can be picked up.

EDIT

That is to say, the port gets the vehicles then customs has to clear them. This involves all the paperwork stuff but also agriculture checks and things. As I don't know what Tacoma is like I couldn't even give you a rought timeline, but for Jacksonville it's typically a week. Get an arrival notice right before the vehicle shows up at port, typically a week, week and a half before it actually gets released in order to be picked up.

Port photos of the Suzukis are in. I'm beyond excited for the Carry:

The Wagon R was supposed to get new tires at port since it had a flat but they just threw the spare on there. I'm honestly not sure if there is a difference between the spare and a normal tire for this thing so I'm waiting to hear back on if it's ok to ship that way or not. Still might get all 4 tires replaced there since it'll be easier to find the right size and I'd have to pay someone to install them once the car got here anyway.

It'll be a spacesaver, can't see it really mattering for getting it transported, but the standard tyre size is probably 155/65R13.

Yeah I just don't want it to go flat on the trip over. As far as I can tell you're correct on the standard size and there is exactly 1 model of tire readily available in the US (Federal SS-657) so I'll probably just get them swapped out in Japan and be done with it. Can't imagine I'll save any money by sourcing them here vs a country where that size is significantly more common.

Your buys look fantastic. Are you in the US? As someone who has bought at least 15 sets of 12/13/14” tires in 2020 it’s not a problem at all. Just because it’s “165/xx” doesn’t mean a different size won’t work. If you are not in the US well I don’t know. I just get tires from Amazon or eBay. I’ve been happy with every set and every brand. Look up tire size calculators we are talking an inch or less of radius on different combos. I like putting the biggest ones on that I can fit (or the cheapest ones on Amazon that day). Both the truck and wagon look great.

I don’t remember if I posted this but I did a bit of “off roading” in one of my minis and this one isn’t in great cosmetic shape but man, they are capable! Very surprising.

As suggested, use https://tiresize.com/calculator/ to see about different tires that might not be identical, but will work. I use this site constantly in my white-letters-out fetish. You still have to do your own conclusions on clearances and size limits though, but this will give you a much clearer answer.

In Limerence Motors LLC news we sold three cars all at once this last week. Great! Because as it happens we need that storage space this week to store a few more.

Yep. When you see these poles on the corners it's always opposite the driver, specifically to tell you where your furthest corner of your car is.

If there are two of them then it's probably for flags :v:

Yeah like they said ^ it's to mark the passenger corner of the vehicle. Helpful for parallel parking in tight spaces, although less so in a country that drives on the right.

I can't imagine it's that useful in this particular car with the seating position and super short hood but hey it's worth some JDM points when I go to sell it I guess.

Honda made one that was telescopic like a power antenna around this time and in the late aughts I remember it becoming one of the ultimate obscure JDM street cred parts to pay several hundred bucks for and wire up to your rusted out EG.

Same as the best time to plant a tree was 10 years ago or whatever the best time to buy a Cruiser is NOW. Once production stops for USA at least whether it lasts a bit or forever people are going to go into a frenzy. It’s already crazy. The Lexus equivalent can still be had for bargains if you find the right deal. Keep a lookout for local deals if something good and below market comes up get it. IMO which is often wrong a well bought Cruiser will not lose money. I’d happily take the Lexus version but this is what I got.

I'm pretty happy with my daily Tacoma but I still dick around on CL and daydream.

Problem is we've had lots of family financial goals that have precluded a third 'fun' car and thus, I haven't been able to justify a legit daily tinker car with a young kiddo--the transportation has to be deadnuts reliable.

I figure in 3 years i'll be in a position for a tinker car. Fingers crossed. I have a mega hard-on for 80s though. This guy across town has a 91 white with cloth seats and no factor tint that is just :allears:

Oh yeah. I'll just be the annoying drooling rear end in a top hat in this thread for awhile. It's just hard to justify a toy car when we are dropping like 1k/mo on daycare and trying to move. We'll get there though.

Just do the correct 3.0 ya dingus

I didn't get more pictures before we chucked it into the warehouse BUT: The KZ in a 4Runner with a 5 speed is rad as gently caress. There is a bunch of scratches on the body from what I can only assume is kayak marks as a lot of them are on the roof. The mirror-tinting blows and is lovely and leaves an rear end-ton of glue when removing and I hate it. Weirdly it gets a ton of attention, I figured it would blend since it's a 4Runner, but I suppose the 'SURF', it's stance and the turbo diesel calls attention to it. Three interactions just on the short jaunt over the the warehouse, a thumbs up, a "Hey awesome truck!" and one "HOLY poo poo SWEET"-type drive by compliment that I think was a dude saying to his buddy. A polish will take out 90% of these scratches, an afternoon with a razor blade and isopropyl will get rid of the tinting then it's an oil change, wash and wax and then hopefully it turns into a fat pile of cash!

I imported a sambar last year through Texas and I left it at my dads house while getting the title and registration ready. He lost the keys, both of them. Can a locksmith make a new key with just the locks as reference or am I going to have to import all new locks and an ignition?

Its now legal and insured in Texas but I live in California. Has anyone had much luck registering imports in California? The tentative plan was to leave it registered in Texas if CA wasnt an option.

Really more a question for a locksmith specifically, I can't imagine making new keys without the proper locks is a request they NEVER get, but I wouldn't know what their answer is to people. Good thing is that your Sambar's locks and keys are completely bog-standard and aren't special in any way, just metal on metal on metal.

For registration your easiest path by far is to leave it registered in Texas. California is the ONE 'gotcha' state, the only one, when it comes to registering things from other countries being a PITA.

But hey look at this:
