I love Valheim, but it is best played with a crew of your besties who wouldn't steal your poo poo or crash trees on your painstakingly built king's hall.

You can get wards, they stop people from opening chests and doors within a radius, i've got that on my house. If you want to give other people access to it, you have them touch the ward you make before you turn it on, then once you turn it on everything is locked down. I'm not sure if that stops you from using deconstruct on your friends stuff, i'll check tonight.

The tree thing is amazing though. I've planted 200 tree's on a downward hill, with a few on the top, then I chopped all of the ones at the top and had them crush through all of the tree's below like a domino effect. It took four of us with carts to clean it up.

Regardless, because your character moves between worlds, all of my fancy builds are going in my world where i'm not killing any world bosses, so my town shouldn't get attacked by trolls or whatever.

For some reason its clicking with me.

Theres quite a few "Problems" with it like:

Chop a large tree down and it collides with another tree and that tree hit another trees and so on. And sometimes theses tree's smash into a house. And it's hilarious.
You can build on everyone else's property and DESTROY their property as well. Drop a work bench on your neighbors plot. Equip your hammmer, target his house and start slapping that middle mouse button. It destroys everthing and you even get wood back for doing it.(i might be wrong on the button.)

Those chests that are expose to guard your stuff are not locked in anyway. Go up to it and hit e to open it and take what you need from your angry neighbor. Theres nothing he/she can do about it.

Craft a hoe? Not sure if i got the name right, and make sure its on leveling(right click) and you can make dirt paths where there were none. Just aim yourself in the direction you want the path in, and start clicking. Also with this tool you can dig holes that players can not get out of. I built a dirt bridge from land out onto a island. Pretty sure your not expose to do that.

I paid 15 for it off steam and i cant tell you how funny it is to chop a huge tree down and watch it fall onto a house and crush it.

I'm sure they'll fix these things..at one point.

The main issue here is that it's not meant to be Rust. It's designed to be played co-op with a handful of friends.

Edit: I mean the tree physics is still hilarious but it's basically just not designed for standard survival game mentality.

I built my own viking house.

As you can probably tell I don't usually build houses in survival games. (in honesty it's expanded upon an existing house.)

In our co-op others have build our house, but even if simplistic, it's still fun and I wanted to try it out too. Building the roof properly is a nightmare and probably would require planning the house shape in advance.

Still it has room for a forge but I'll probably make a separate house for the kiln and the smelter.

That's what we've done. We've got a town with a house per person. A couple of people have moved so we've converted their old houses into warehouses/smelters or fermenters and the whole thing is walled off/pathed. Having seperate buildings for things ends up looking really nice.

I even pathed out to the nearest black forest and built a bridge over the river. Now we can get carts over there to mine copper/tin and grab core wood with ease.

It's been really fun.

Nerf the drat mosquitos and the game is 11/10. Now its just 10/10.

Love building bridges over the rivers to get to new areas. Me and my buddy just found a nice pair of small islands to build a base on and to bridge two large continents together.

Going to be great building there once we get bored of trying to find the fourth boss location.

I cobbled together this house together in my first 2 hours with the game. As soon as I discovered that you have to structurally reinforce buildings internally I was hooked. I can tell I'm going to spend so much time building my own little Skyrim.

I am immensely enjoying Valheim but for the love of Odin give me a horse or a magic stag or something. The boss power does not count.

Also maybe I'm just garbage but the stamina regen is waaaaay too slow for the pseudo Dark Souls combat they're going for. I'm spending 3/4 of a fight walking around kiting enemies to regain stamina.

I'm using the Stagbreaker hammer (with the axe/shield for a backup set) and I definitely feel this. Usually a friend is tanking and I'm doing crowd control by hammering draugrs and skeletons to bits.

Despite what I said I'm gonna want one spoiler for upgrading Stagbreaker:

what do you need to upgrade the workbench to level 5? I'd love to upgrade ^^ further but I can't even though we're into iron recipes already. We're currently clearing a swamp area for iron. Is it a next area thing?

The AOE on the hammer is massive and it stuns too. It almost feels like cheating when we reached a big draugr village on the border of the swamp biome where the draugrs were hanging out inside the houses with spawners, and I just blasted the houses on the outside damaging everything inside too (and they couldn't open the door themselves)

Stag-Breaker is neat for being swamped by pixies or whatever, but blow for blow it doesn't square up the damage of a 1h axe. Not that I mind, I like that different people in the group can have a different role and thunder.

I've completely stalled out after like 1.5 hours of actual progression. I have plenty of leather to continue, but I'm having too much fun playing architectural design simulator!

At first, I was stymied trying to build a house like you would in Minecraft, frame out the walls, build the roof, etc. With the tops parts of my house in tatters on the ground, I remembered Pillars of the Earth from reading it a decade or so ago. Though I've forgotten large parts of the plot(except for the protagonist's mom pissing on the bible), I remember the focus on arches for building strength, especially with heavy materials.

With that in mind, I started experimenting with cross bracing the roof structure. It works exactly as you would expect! Once I get the roof on this sucker I may actually see what the rest of the game is about.

Someone mentioned making a Valheim thread earlier. Is someone going to jump on that? If not I have to dust off my bbcode reference sheet.

In Valheim, it's possible to get a Fine Wood bow before you fight any bosses at all. The trick is that logs will do damage to other logs regardless of 'hardness' tier.

Chop down a beech tree near a birch or oak tree, cut the trunk into a log, and then roll it over slightly uphill from the target tree. Repeatedly roll it away and either let gravity smash it into the tree or sprint/roll it back. Once the tree is cut down, repeat this process on the trunk/logs. Oak logs are especially hilarious as they have next to no mass so you can sprint roll them up a hill for better positioning.

Do be careful that you don't get in the way of it rolling; oak logs are no joke.

And then go cut down a couple pine trees from a black forest and craft your Tier2 bow to clown on the first boss.

The game seems to really incentivize a wholistic approach to progression. As you move into new biomes it's not enough to just build the new weapons, you need to begin harvesting the new ingredients to make the newest foods, build the newest comfort items, collect the newest potions, get the newest macguffins. It also really behooves you to avoid fighting at night and in the rain whenever possible, because cold & wet are huge debuffs. You need all the weapon types because enemies have weaknesses to certain damage types and it's much better to be using a lower tier of the correct damage type than to be using the newest tier of a neutral damage type.

Game good

This is entirely more work than it's worth. Tier upgrades aren't that dramatic, especially not for the first few tiers.

Me and my friend spent two days trying to find the fourth boss and the trader, first he finds the fifth boss out in the sea, a few seconds later the spoiler and then I find the fourth boss location. All goals completed in the same minute.

And when I look for other stuff around the fourth boss I find the rune stone showing its location, just under 100 meters from it.

It may not have been ~efficient~ usage of time, but it was a heckuva lot of fun. And oak logs make for decent blunt destructive devices, especially against random mobs.

Been playing BOTW off and on lately again and I love finding emergent gameplay like this.

Not for the bow. Basic bow is absolute garbage and feels like poo poo even with decent skill level. Finewood bow is the first bow that has decent accuracy/arc flatness. A bit mroe damage is just a bonus.

They should add a note about this in the tutorial because it does indeed make a ridiculous difference.

I have to give this game credit for *really* digging it's heels in about co-op, though. You can do everything solo but the amount of harvesting required means you are gonna spend a whole lotta time swinging that pickaxe

Early mining is so drat tedious. You need an absolute cartload of ores to get the things you need. I'm not threatened by the enemies but they sure are a nuisance, ores are heavy, and actually mining is quite slow.
Maybe balance will be tweaked during EA.

We sailed to the area where he lives and got two hit killed by Furlings and Deathsquitos We are fully decked out in level 2 Troll armor(has the same AC as Bronze) and Bronze swords. What the gently caress should we be doing, I mean we killed the first boss easy with basic leather armor. Does this next one need even higher than Troll or Bronze? We can't even approach where he should be due to these critters.
