Best buy emailed me that they finally have my 3080! They didn't of course let me reserve it with cash in any way shape or form so now a bot has another $2000 card to sell. I don't care if you have to tell me you wont have my GPU until 2022 you fucks because it pretty clear that is what is going to happen anyway. Ugh, common crypto hurry up and loving bubble pop.

Oregon/Sw Washington people: I have a 3070 Tuf on order at bestbuy from this mornings drop. My coworker doesn't want this after asking me to get him a card. I'll let any of you local people that are going to USE this card and not attempt to resell have it at msrp. I can cancel this order, so its not a huge deal if no one wants it. I'm done getting people cards.

I didn't manage to snag anything today either and it looks like a lot of the ATR drop discord didn't get anything either. I'm sure lower inventory is part of it, other retailers are reporting that shipments are down recently too, but I also wonder whether the sneakernet bots have started to figure out best buy's drop system and be able to exploit it to get more of the cards. it's really only a matter of time, it's ultimately all a stalling tactic, you can't prevent a sybil attack without some kind of external authentication mechanism to guarantee user uniqueness, eventually botters will figure out that the system works on IP uniqueness or geographic uniqueness or whatever and once you figure that out then they'll come up with a mechanism that lets them pretend they're actually 500 users and suck up all the inventory. Eventually they will even come up with some client that lets them pretend to be a real web browser but actually be a bot that just works on the http requests and picks off the async responses and works faster than a human or even a bot with a selenium client ever could. the only defense against bots is ultimately to keep changing the flow up enough that the bot keeps breaking. There is no technical mechanism that can defeat bots for an unlimited period of time, licenses for these bots are thousands of dollars each so there are hundreds of thousands of dollars per month flowing to the authors of these bots to keep them updated. but yeah it's looking like december and early january was the best time to buy a card after all, there was a definite bump in volume and it was relatively easy to get cards back then. It just wasn't enough to fully satisfy demand.

At this rate a 3070 mining @ 50% power (TDP?) with something like NiceHash for even just a month will cover the tariff price increases (including electricity costs). May as well do it while crypto is soaring to make up for the lovely prices even if you initially bought solely for gaming.

Sold my 1080ti and approx ~2 year old corsair to go with it for my full asking price of $650 and guy was ecstatic to get it. I probably could have listed it for a bit more but I am cool with it. It was going to be put in the Mrs. Slidebites PC (she gets my hand-me-downs) but her GTX780 will have to last a little longer yet... her Rise of Nations just rocks with it anyhow.
