I'm surprised that more legitimate businesses don't use registered Caller ID. Spam and scam calls are getting more and more prevalent so more and more people are simply not going to answer legitimate calls.

I always figure that if its important they'll leave a message. I try to convince my mum to ignore unknown numbers but she always picks up and then hangs up immediately, which just puts her on a list I'm sure.

When I was job seeking I felt like I had to answer every time my phone rang. My phone does have a "potential fraud" alert thing on it which helped me dodge a few scam calls but yeah they're definitely ramping up here lately. Jokes on me though cause my new job requires me to have a phone and the drat thing is constantly ringing and beeping with emails from people wanting me to answer their questions

Easiest way to tell if it's a scam caller is to just answer but not make any noise, if it's dead silent it's an auto dialer and you can hang up (unless it hangs up first). 6th tattoo down, (4th Simpsons) some real spicy parts on the back of the arm, worst one so far as far as peak pain.

Had to install an app to stop them calling because I couldn't do it through Android, probably because of how they spoofed their ID. A co-worker's parents who are well into their 80s and have never owned a computer and still have a landline get constant calls about problems with their Windows installation and internet connection. Never get a landline. The amount to scam calls they apparently get a day is insane. Like, about 30 calls. Most in the evening when they're trying to have tea. Also, a landline apparently cost around $60 a month. For something which only does phone calls. loving scam to rip off the olds. And my condolences to everyone who can't just block all this poo poo. I like to start out with "ok my mastercard number is:" followed by a few numbers tailing off into swears or recipes or just a radom line from a book within reach. sometimes they have a giggle, occasionally you get a venter.

Maybe the mistake you made was calling from a work phone, so of course Isaac is gonna wonder why the Condobolin Civil and Construction Co is calling him one week and the Bundaberg Natrad is calling the next week

Made the mistake of calling a work contact from my personal phone once, and then the oval office was calling me every other day and got the shits when he couldn't get me at 8pm at night. Boss got involved cause he was one of our bigger clients and politely told him to call the main number for IT support. Speaking of phones one of the estimators got the absolute shits this morning and threw his phone as hard as he could on the ground. Told the boss he 'dropped it' because he got lucky that it just broke the screen rather than shatter into a billion pieces. Ahhhh phones gently caress em

McSpergin posted:The scam callers have been real active lately. Got the shits and decided to answer and tell them "nice try oval office, I know this is a scam, don't call me back and go get a real job oval office" then hang up I recently got a call from someone claiming to be from my bank's fraud team. It was juuuuuust plausible enough to keep me on the line, googling everything they said as they said it. At the point at which they tried to convince me to install a remote access app on my phone I told them it was highly improbable that my bank's fraud team would ask me to do that, particularly as the caller in question had not in fact stated the name of my bank at any time during the call. He took a punt on NAB and I told him I do not now nor have I ever had an account with NAB, at which point the call disconnected. To be sure I called my bank and asked them if anything suspicious appeared to have occurred, and set a password question they promised they would ask over the phone before commencing any future calls with me. OTOH I got a text from a random number last year telling me centrelink would be calling from a blocked number and that I should answer it. Basically everything about the process screamed scam. Eventually it turned out Centrelink really was trying to get in touch to refund my robodebt. loving government is lagging behind the scammers in the 'trying not to look like a scam' department.
