Fresh Air was probably the last NPR show I was able to tolerate listening to (before I stopped listening to NPR/APR/etc entirely), mainly because it was about random stuff with little relevance to politics most of the time.

edit: One of the most offensive NPR things to me is "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" for some reason that I'm not even sure I can articulate. Just something about it brings to mind the mental image of a social gathering at an anesthesiologist's $1M+ house.

I've been to a few theatrical shows here at the Berkeley Repertoire and each time it's just been an overwhelming tidal wave of white-haired boomer-silent lib olds and a few grandkids. i picture that's the WWDTM audience entirely just putrefying Marin Lib boomers cackling up at the lamest covfefe or robert mueller joke.

Fresh Air wasn't bad yeah probably their better program. I liked Talk of the Nation but NPR fired neal conan and cancelled it; probably because he inched just a tad tiny tweeny weeny itsy bitsy too much left. i probably couldn't stand it now but it was their best programing in that vein.

fortunately these days i don't even bother because i got a little bluetooth adapter that plugs into the auxillary port of my car so I can just podcast while driving instead. npr is absolutely loving dire these days with tons of bullshit false equivalency 'hmm maybe the da truth is in the middle' garbage and getting some thinktank talking head or NC house republican going on talking about how locking up migrant children is actually good and why min wage should be abolished and then just going "nice ok makes snse thanks for your time today mr senator" in between a thin veneer of progressivism like "how does it feel to be the first millionaire gay trans black bachlorette landlord. and how many rental properties do you own? nice congratulations. very inspiring to us all"

i used to go to shows put on in this little forest theater in the LA hills. cool history to it, it was started by a black listed commie trials actor in the 30s or something.

anyway they do a lot of Shakespeare plays there and they get some good talent. they usually start around sunset so by the end of the show you can see bats flying by to scoop up moths flying around the lights in their maws

onetime I went there and the drunk from the play where everyone fucks with the drunk and makes him think he's king stumbled around the picnic area before the show. the guy was good. he drunk angry stormed the stage while they were telling people to turn off their cell phones and I legit thought he was just some super hammered rear end in a top hat for a few minutes before everyone broke into Shakespeare talk

Talk of the nation was good, but I confuse it with here and now and the takeaway. A former totn host, john hockenberry, was hosting the takeaway later on when he was metoo'd and his show cancelled

here and now seems a little slicker and softer, I just liked the hour long hard interviews

not to defend wait wait don’t tell me, but the cast does go off script and tell dirty jokes, etc.

i went to a taping that had elizabeth edwards as the guest and they asked what shampoo john used, she replied “herbal essences”, and mo rocca followed up with “for normal or extra greasy hair?” there was also an extended riff on the pornography research archive in the basement of the Supreme Court, obvious stuff like “hung jury” and whatnot.

When I worked in a kitchen in the Obama years I listened to a lot of NPR including wait wait even though it was mostly bad because the radio was stuck on that station (lol), I really can’t imagine listening to NPR during the Trump years though. Grim.

decreased public funding and increased Koch bro institute Goldman sacks underwriting. and liberal busybody bullshit like Russiagate mueller impeachment worthless junk definitely did a number on NPR since Obama era

i was also weirded out every time Paula Poundstone showed up on wait wait don't tell me, didn't she try to rape a teenager or something

She had a serious alcohol problem and drove drunk with her adopted and foster kids, and she got charged for that and for "lewd acts" upon a girl younger than 14. The prosecutors dropped the latter charges as part of a plea bargain, so...it's pretty :chloe:, no matter which way you look at it. She probably shouldn't be on NPR regularly.
