Cubs were still in a competitive window in a week division. It's gotten to the point where teams seem to be rebuilding mid rebuild (Rays).

Hopefully we see more of this, along with players like Ian Happ breaking down the “You didn’t lose 8 billion dollars, you just made 2 instead of the 10 you were counting on” bullshit this year. Owners, and the boot polish aficionados all over The Athletic, MLB Network, ESPN, etc. will be spreading their message of greedy players, civic duty, crying poor, etc all year heading into the CBA negotiations and historically players have been pretty quiet.

I know it’s unlikely, but this may actually be best political climate for players since the mid 70’s. They’d better take advantage.

At least they're trying to land an actual prospect this time I guess? Oh and there's also this bit, because really the only way the Cubs could gently caress things up even more this offseason is by bringing in a known wife beater in Familia:

I think you are right that this is the best climate they've had in awhile. And while ESPN et al will carry water for the league, I've been pretty hopeful seeing the amount of poo poo, say, Jeff Passan gets everytime he launders the league's talking points for them.

I don't hear much about Marwin regarding the bangs so it seems like he's done a pretty great job avoiding the stigma considering he got by far the most bangs and had a .907 OPS in 2017 but hasn't come close to an .800 OPS in any other season

Reorganizing all of MiLB into divisions with names like “Triple-A West” and “High-A Central” is the least-fun, most soulless thing MLB could have done, so of course they did it.

They couldn’t even be bothered to do some stunty Brandiose-style stuff like calling them the “Champions of Tomorrow League” or something even halfway resembling interesting.
