Anyone having any expectations from this trial, outside of finding new information out...I don't know. There never was going to be a conviction and I feel like even the performance of this trial was a waste of time. In other news, why hasn't Biden fired DeJoy yet and ground him into dog food?

Is there any evidence that trump has ever paid one of his defense attorneys outside of as a passthrough for paying hush money to porn stars? One of the few hopes I have left is that every one of these parasites he’s hired to represent him never get paid and publicly cry about it

She -- a paralegal -- once asked one of the other firm's paralegals if the rumors were true, and was told something to the effect of they had a person in the firm specifically assigned to getting money out of Trump for their services. Like they had regular billing and then they had Trump billing.

if youre tired of "well actually this is good" takes then here's some food for thought. millions of people on variable rate electricity plans are going to get loving obliterated this month. ERCOT, who ostensibly manages the Texas electrical grid is showing sustained wholesale rates of $5k/MWhr and hitting the $9k/MWhr cap. there's even services which let you pay wholesale which means people are geting anywhere from $5-9 per kilowatt hour currently. if you live in the red in Texas, and have a variable/wholesale rate, good luck. https://twitter.com/shah_neil/status/1360606271615991811?s=20

As lovely as it is, at least I can't go down the full doomer path, because that'll lead to me eating lead or the like. I will still somehow imagine that at there's some light at the end of the tunnel, even if it's further down the line then I'll live to see.

Long term planning to move to Europe is what's going to keep me from going full doomer. I don't know if I'll actually make that decision, but putting myself in a position where it's at least possible will help.

I don't have kids, but it's important to at least try to make things better for other people, even if that task seems impossible. Even in the death camps we had seders, living and carrying on is an act of defiance. Just rolling over and saying we're hosed doesn't help and I feel that most people here actually want something of a positive future, even if that may not be in their lifetime.

McNally posted:I really don't know how I still have hope because I'm continually feeling disappointment when this poo poo happens. I didn't know what the word "pandemic" meant this time a year ago, as I was thinking "wow, South Korea is really getting hit hard by this thing". About three months ago, we had zero good vaccines for COVID-19 and an executive branch that essentially didn't give a poo poo and made things worse. Then, we got two vaccines that are even strong enough to deal with mutant strains, with more good vaccines coming, and a government finally doing nationwide vaccination prep work. The military will even be able to deploy through the country for a good thing (besides testing), for once! I can squint reasonably hard and see a really good late-summer, especially if COVID is as seasonable as it appears to be. Nobody knows where we'll be in six months, a year, 2022, or 2024. So that's enough to stave off the doom for me.
