I need to fix the receiver though, no sound out of the left channel... guessing it'll be something easy enough to fix, but just haven't had time. I really love that set, great aesthetic and great sound.

The only non-Yamaha item will be the record player, as it is my mum's quadraphonic JVC/Nivico from the late 60s.

What problem does that solve, exactly? It seems like it would need more engineering than a standard display, in order to ...snag on things easier? E: Ah, OK, I get it now. It's a recession for the headphones: Resident Idiot has a new favorite as of 01:41 on Feb 14, 2021 |

I’ve recently come into possession of a bunch of older macs One Power Mac G4 (mid 2003) One Power Mac G4 quicksilver And like a pallet of dual proc g5 Mac pros and some manner of very early Xeon Mac pros A few questions. 1) Can you download and burn installation media for these machines in tyool 2021? Google is surprisingly dodgy on this. All of these need a fresh install of something on them. Most of them have 10.4.x or 10.5.x on them already but I’d like to do a fresh OS install. 2) The Xeon Mac pros don’t have any video cards. I also plugged in a generic Radeon card I had laying around and it didn’t work, so I’m guessing these need some specific Mac version of a video card? Is there a way to make a normal video card work on them? 3) outside of the normal OS that comes on there is there anything interesting they can run? I’m guessing various flavors of Linux for the G4/5 machines and basic windows or Linux for the Xeon machines? Beve Stuscemi has a new favorite as of 01:09 on Feb 15, 2021 |

Jim Silly-Balls posted:I’ve recently come into possession of a bunch of older macs 1. Yes. Macintoshgarden and macintoshrepository have disk images for download. You might need to use imgburn to get a bootable disk. You can also do it from usb. 2. Afaik, no, but it's not something I'm super knowledgeable about. Google or the Mac games thread in retrogames might know more. 3. The 2003 G4 should be able to natively run OS9 if you have any nostalgia for classic mac os. Also I want it, the one on Craigslist never replied to me. The case on the g5/pros is/was rather desirable for a time too, and makes a decent table leg.

You can get ISOs of macOS at archive.org, user uploaded bit as close to guaranteed safe as you'll find. The Xeon will run boot camp windows fine, and yeah there are several Linux flavors that ran on PowerPC, not sure if any are still maintained. As for GPUs, yes you need to flash the bios, not all cards have a big enough rom to do it though An ancient thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/the-golden-guide-to-flashing-graphic-cards.877441/

Jim Silly-Balls posted:I’ve recently come into possession of a bunch of older macs It's been years since I had access to a Mac but I did for a while there, and got OpenSUSE up and running on Macs 2008-2009, and I'm pretty sure at least that distro has a PPC port. If memory serves the only thing that didn't work at the time was Flash, and at this point Flash is gone so shouldn't be an issue.

Just doesn't seem worth 80 Euros though.

Yeah, if he had found his water cutoff valve, turned his water off, and then opened all the faucets before leaving, he wouldn't have had that problem. Most people in Texas probably wouldn't know that, but dallas sees it's fair share of cold winters and he should have known some basics about protecting his pipes.

Do you guys not have public safety advertisements advising on things like this as X season approaches? We get poo poo non-stop during cyclone season and same with bushfire season. All radio stations (including commercial) broadcast what to do, who to tune into and other useful information.
