Someone smashed the mirror glass and the black plastic bezel that goes around the mirror on my dads 2014 V70. The backing "case" in body color is unharmed. Looking online it seems that the plastic bezel can't be removed separately, which sucks. Or am I missing a part number / correct term for it?

In the past few weeks, twice I have passed the same car in the same place on a road close to where I live. A decent looking green Volvo 145 DL, and while not in excellent condition it seemed pretty nice and apparently in good driving order. Wasn't some ancient old man driving it, but some dude in his 40s or so. Gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. That is all.

It might be a little snobby but that price kind of puts me off. I've never heard of the brand yet but that's some seriously cheap components. Sachs is baseline OEM quality at aftermarket price, and it's more than double.

IIRC FCS is a shock/strut you put on something you're selling, as long as you don't plan on doing real long test drives. I'm not afraid of cheap shocks in general though, the $30/corner Gabriels on my truck still feel alright 120000km later.

Copy that. This car is so nice I’ll pay up. I’m getting a little rattle/squeak from the heater blower fan it sounds like. Do those bearings go bad? It goes away if I turn the fan speed up.

And if I recall changing it isn't that bad. There's videos on youtube. I did it on my 01 but it's been so long I can't remember.

The Volvo thread deserves to see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3hfsBoEQa4 Sadly this is what I imagine my 122 will look like when I'm done, but then I realize it'll cost me like a hundred grand to really accomplish that.

Yeah the P1800 is very nice. I kinda prefer the shooting brake one though. The only negative of that car is that it came with 4 cylinder engines. But I guess that's simple to fix. Prices are high though, even in Sweden. Edit: Speaking of cool Volvos, the 142 is a good looking car, especially if tastefully modded. Supposed to be fun to drive as well. My 02 V70XC continues to run great, albeit much louder now since something cracked in the exhaust. The bracket holding up the tailpipe finally rusted out and that's sagging and there are fumes escaping the flex pipe that meets the exhaust manifold. Now if only every muffler shop up here wasn't terrified of Volvos I'd be alright, instead I'm calling around and trying to assuage the fears of yooper mechanics.

The exhaust on that car is not difficult to replace, even up to the turbo. If it's only the back half that needs replacing then it's a piece of cake. It hangs below everything and has basically 2 bolts and 4 rubber hangers holding it on.

My P2 XC70 got totaled and I'm trying to size up my repair budget based on the repair estimate from the insurance appraiser. Any idea whether on the P2s, the radiator support mount (30655380) and side panels (8652198, 8652197) need paint and clear coat? My recollection from my vehicle is that they were always primer black. The appraiser's estimate had them as needing paint and CC and I'm not too sure about it Not gonna post the (minor) destruction unless requested, it was a pretty frustrating situation

While we’re at it, do you have any experience with the $90 or $140 radiator mount supports on eBay and Amazon? Sure beats the $6-700 ones from the dealer. Found like 4 reviews for one on Amazon and it seems alright? I’m betting I’m more likely to find issues from damage to the rest of the front end than from the part itself?

Repro parts are usually just fine, although these cars are everywhere in junkyards. I'd order them used from LKQ if you don't want to yank it yourself. Should be even cheaper than repro. I got the V50 version of these parts for $12 at a pick and pull.

In my experience the wires are all the same size, somewhere around 18-22 gauge, and the canbus wires are solid white and solid green. Example: Body side of ECU and TCU connections: LloydDobler fucked around with this message at 19:57 on Feb 12, 2021 |

I found it from the disassembled radiator support (you can see the horns, SRS modules, air guides) from my P2 XC70. Can't seem to see anything like this in the exploded parts diagrams though...

I'm going to check out a fully-loaded 40K mile 2013 XC70 3.2 tomorrow. From what I can find the engine is pretty solid, but any advice on particular things to look out for with the car? This would be my first Volvo, but I've been wrenching on Audis and BMWs for the last 15 years or so. Also, are electrical problems common on these cars? The Carfax has some warranty electrical system work that always makes me a bit nervous. I'm going to be working the phones today to see if I can get any more specific information on what was done from a Volvo dealer since the car had all of its service done at the dealership. Looking at an 04 S60 2.5T AWD on Wednesday. Anything I should know beforehand? What should I look at first or is an immediate "walk away"? FWIW this will be my first car (never really needed one until recently). That said, I did do some auto shop in high school. 20 years ago.

Just had the bolt that holds the alternator drive gear back out on my P2 xc-90 3.2. I managed to fix it but now I have a CEL that won't go away. Will a regular OBD2 reader pull that code or am I looking at going to the dealer or eBay VIDA/DICE solution?
|
# ? Mar 16, 2021 16:27 |

Some code readers work but it's a crap shoot. The other option is to try and find someone in the local volvo club or on swedespeed who can reset it with a personal pirate VIDA. If you're in the Portland OR area I can do it. You can also try the trick of disconnecting the battery and touching the terminals together (or just leave it disconnected for half an hour for caps to discharge). I hate that it works sometimes but it does.

My limited understanding so far is that the VIDA software itself transitioned to an online-only version with the 2015 "version number" and that the latest that's available "around the web" is 2014D. That seems to start petering out on what it can do in the 2015 model year. e.g., for my 2015.5 it has the parts catalog but none of the repair / maintenance procedures like it does for older MYs.
