I remember as a kid looking up at the stars in the middle of the Haiawatha forest in the UP and being stunned by just how much was in the sky. The UP is already sparsely populated and the middle of Haiawatha is no mans land even for them.

i did a honeymoon in the UP last year and coming from chicago, the night sky was stunning and the level of absolute darkness before the moon rises was terrifying.
