I've always wondered about these folks until I actually met one of them. They're a cool person to talk to and I was excited to be friends with them but as soon as we went into an instance together it was like... ohhhh noooo.

Like either they don't have a keyboard or they're the world's slowest typer, which is fine, but they prioritize responding to text messages above all else even while in mid-combat. So like as a healer they'll randomly go AFK for 30 seconds at a time and then you'll see a joke pop up in group chat.

I've also gently suggested things like not randomly provoking the boss while they're standing behind it in alliance raids, and it sticks for like maybe a minute until they're once more skeet skatting and diddly bopping across their keyboard hitting whatever feels right. Like we duoed a dungeon for a blue mage skill and we talked about how we'd divide up the roles and how 1000 needles is the Big Damage Button in this instance, and then like 10 seconds into the boss fight they're just hitting random buttons on their hotbar. It was something out of a comedy, I'm benny hilling around trying to stay alive and do damage and meanwhile there's a dude in the corner going "I'm helping!!!" pelting them with fish and acorns and poo poo lol

The people involved with Ala Mhigo’s restoration are trying to get their industry up and running so that they can be self sufficient.

I’m really not sure what a better solution would have been?

Nanamo is also barely more than a figurehead in Ul’dah. She can’t just snap her fingers and make everything magically better either.

They do throw a bone to the idea of the Ala Mhigans finding this to be kind of bullshit, if you go and do a sidequest in Ul'dah that unlocks a bit after all of that is over. I believe it starts at the guy in the alley that gives you one of the tutorial quests, and was a contact back in 2.x with the riot subplot? He outright states that a lot of Ala Mhigans still don't trust those monetarist assholes, and that they're essentially planning to unionize and use whatever scrap of power this venture gives them to hold their own.

It's the best deal that Nanamo could have brokered, given her relative lack of power and her need to placate the capitalist fucks in charge. FFXIV's story has always been mealy-mouthed about genuinely addressing social change, but at least it's left open-ended for now.

yea it's a dumb plot but they at least acknowledge it's dumb by having a side quest where a guy connected to it goes 'uh yea these people want food and you turned over all power to help them to profit focused syndicates so they're not super happy actually'.

Like, it doesn't GO anywhere but it at least does acknowledge that Ul'Dah loving sucks and Nanamo is a pure figurehead just trying her best to avoid yet another coup.

Today, I had an encounter that made me wish for an Honest Healer. I was doing Eternity with my friend (She was playing Astrologian at the time) and we happened to get paired with the biggest collection of chuckle fucks I have ever met doing any content, ever.

The first was a Black Mage, who seems to have taken "Healers Adjust" to be quite literal as they took the concept of "Getting out of the AoE" to be sacrilege, even with callouts. The Dark Knight, who was the off-tank, also could find no way to trigger Blackest Night it seemed, except to stand in the AoE's and eat a vuln stack. They also complained that the fight was difficult because they were used to call-outs. On Eden's Promise: Eternity, Normal. The other two DPS had a love affair with the floor as well, but not nearly as much as the Black Mage did. All of this would have been adjustable however... were it not for the White Mage.

The White Mage didn't heal, but, unlike a White Mage who was focused upon their parse, they also didn't DPS. In fact, the White Mage didn't do much of anything. This was the first time since I'd properly trained myself to "Even if on low HP, trust the healer" to actively try to unlearn that poo poo and start casting Clemency. At first, I just figured they were really bad, but I was so... baffled by the entire run taking like... 25 minutes, including a wipe at 10%, that I just had to see how these guys performed in the past.

Note: I'm not great, I'm an okay tank, I think if I really drilled myself I could do savage consistently. I tend to only function well as a Paladin as the Main Tank, and the moment I eat something unintentionally or lose focus? It's a shitshow. So, I in general don't try to judge other players. And for the others, yeah whatever, they typically parsed grey in the few instances they were recorded. Whatever, it doesn't matter. Until I saw the White Mages 0 Parse on a fight against Ramuh Normal. And while that might be the telltale signs of an Honest Healer... I didn't feel healed, I felt dead a lot more than I should have... so I toss that parse into XIVanalysis.

I honestly don't know how to parse this information... it has to be deliberate right? It's not that they're not DPSing and they're healing, it's that they aren't doing anything. How did you get past the solo story duties to even unlock Eden? Is this... griefing? Like just not caring and wanting to be the most deadweight they can be? I don't know... but I discovered... I'll take a healer who just heals me... because at least then I'd have a healer who was healing.

The other day I was playing black mage and my party wiped to the first boss of Matoya's Relict. It was weird - a dodgeable AoE killed the healer and badly mangled the RDM, the RDM just managed to resurrect the healer before dying to a raidwide AoE that the healer didn't top them off for, and then the healer just sort of stood there while the boss auto'd the tank to death.

After the pull, the tank said something like "give me a couple minutes to fix up the healer's buttons, she's 5"

And you know what? They did, and we cleared the dungeon, albeit a bit more slowly than I'm used to.
