As a child I had a book of myths and legends, which was mostly pretty standard aside from removing the sex and gore (as appropriate for the target audience). But one of the stories was St George and the Dragon, and this book claimed that rather than killing the dragon, George just talked to it and found a peaceful solution. And they hadn't changed any of the other stories that way; Perseus still beheaded Medusa and Theseus still killed the Minotaur, they just didn't go into the bloody details. But St George? Just had a chat with the dragon and found out it didn't even like human sacrifices in the first place. I didn't question it at the time, but looking back I just have to wonder what the gently caress that was about.
