look these are concentration camps, obviously, but the important thing to bear in mind is that the people in them are not as concentrated as they were in the other camps

like there are degrees of concentration camps okay? and the comparisons to the nazis are completely out of line and frankly ought to be bannable imo, because these are not death camps, these are concentrations camps

now of course people are dying in them due to various issues like disease, malnutrition, even the occasional murder. but it's not like that's a policy ffs. get a grip

They're clearly not in jail conditions? I mean it's a camp but I don't see them being locked in cells, shackled, etc. I mean it's supposed to be for up to 20 days while their sponsors are found and vetted, which, okay, isn't unreasonable for reasons I think we agree on.

A number of posters keep mixing up ICE facilities and Office of Refugee Resettlement ones. Stop it.

maybe the competently managed kid prison argument would hold some water if we didn't already know about the rampant abuse and that the "guardians" they're getting weren't just using them as slave labor. hmmm but according to d&d unless you're a professional kid warden/sweatshop foreman you really don't have the credentials to weigh whether it would simply be better to not have kid prisoner slaves

Sorry to interrupt your rant here but ICE isn't holding these kids. Can you go back and edit your post to be angry about the Office of Refugee Resettlement, which is part of HHS, not DHS? Thanks.

As to conditions at the camp, it used to be a housing camp for oil workers run by Stratton Oilfield Systems, called "The Studios at Carizzo Springs".

https://www.vice.com/en/article/vb9xga/the-trump-administration-is-converting-a-former-man-camp-in-texas-into-a-shelter-for-migrant-kids

https://eaglefordshale.com/efs-news/press-releases/the-studios-at-carrizo-springs-provides-state-of-the-art-eagle-ford-accomodations

"The detention centers overseen by ICE are reserved for adults or families and often are run by private prison companies. Carrizo Springs is run by the nonprofit BCFS Health and Human Services, a government contractor for the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the agency within HHS that focuses on unaccompanied children."

It is a temporary refugee camp run by a nonprofit for the Office of Refugee Resettlement. These are in a different government department from ICE, who are all, as we 100% agree, shitbags who deserve to be punished. It's not a jail, calling it a concentration camp is frankly a lie - children stay there on average 42 days before being released to sponsors. Even if they were in hotels they would still be there some time, so while 42 days isn't the 20 days agreed in the consent decree, it's a transient refugee camp run by HHS Office of Refugee Resettlement.

The ICE camps, on the other hand, are loving evil. Can we at least not tar ORR with the same brush needlessly?
