Reading the story, “weaken Russia” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that headline. The actual quote is “weaken Russia’s ability to influence its neighbours”, and appears to come from a discussion of what to do around the time the Crimea Clicking through to the leaked documents takes you to a page purporting to be an Anonymous data dump that asserts the UK government is “quietly colonising the rest of Europe” and in support of this posts extracts from a bunch of documents with little structure and a lot of batshit overreach. I don’t for one minute doubt that the FCO is trying to influence news organisations away from Russian attempts to do the same. The actual website with the linked documents is a bunch of conspiracy theory bullshit though.

oh christ do not try to run dnd via video chat. discord, because it has clearer ways to minimize crosstalk (which like you say is your #1 priority) and roll20. no more than six players, ideally about four. and be prepared to have some kind of, gentleman's agreement or quasi metagame thing where you all agree to share and rotate DM attention and talking time even out of combat.

Comrade Fakename posted:Oh yeah, how’s your paramilitary training going? About as well as your full-time work for Momentum by the looks of things. I'm being loving snarky of course, which is the seriousness your own snark warrants. But yeah, as much as I think that socialism isn't happening through liberal democracy, I have been pretty consistent the past 12-15 months: A group of Labour left MPs, backed by the more aggressive trade unions, & with the campaigning power of Momentum, has more chance of influencing politics in the UK as a new party (much like Jimmy Maxton's Independent Labour Party in the '30s) than they do within the rotten carcass of Labour. The thing that would make it different from other Labour off-shoots in the past 40 years is simple: Socialist Party/Militant at their peak had what, 2 MPs? Socialist Labour had nothing. Respect had Galloway which is worse than nothing. The SCG has 34 MPs right now. Which is probably the largest its been since...I dunno, the Iraq War? Since it was founded? I'll be blunt. I'm loving poor, I see no signs of that changing any time soon. I'd rather burn Labour down and see something new grown from the ashes because what we've got sure as poo poo isn't working. It's a party full of wreckers & opportunists. forkboy84 fucked around with this message at 02:56 on Feb 24, 2021 |

I've been playing Valheim with the wife. It's bloody good fun. Also burn the Labour Party to the ground and salt the earth. It's pretty much the only way we'll get anywhere long term with a leftist agenda.

I regularly play rpgs over zoom all the time, no problem. By contrast we tried discord first and it was terrible, constant audio problems. I think if you're used to playing with each other the platform doesn't matter and if you're relatively new to playing with each other its going to take a while to find your rhythm no matter the platform. In my experience stuff like roll20 is more useful for its ability to free up the gms attention than anything else.

Zoom+roll20 works really well for us, it's actually not really very different from in-person. It probably helps that it's the same group that I've been playing with for like a decade though. It’s such a pain to get everyone together that you need to make the most of it, but switching the mindset from “can you give up an entire evening, and drive” to “can you jump on your computer for an hour tonight?” really helped keep our game going. Edit: we even added a 4th player, something we’ve avoided for two years of gaming just for logistical reasons.

forkboy84 posted:About as well as your full-time work for Momentum by the looks of things. best-case scenario I can come up with for the hypothetical SCG defection: - 20 or so SCG MPs resign the whip (pretty sure some would get cold feet) backed by 1 or 2 major unions. They get a few days of press coverage, most of it overwhelmingly negative ("look at these dumb lefty wreckers") but enough to make the public remember they exist. They instantly become the fourth largest party in Parliament. - Over the next few years they diligently start putting out their own press releases actually attacking the government while Keith (or his successor) carries on waffling bipartisanly. Like the Greens, they get some coverage by the papers and BBC, mostly because it makes people mad which gets clicks, but also enough to remind people they exist. The MPs focus on building a decent support base in their actual constituencies. - General Election comes around, Tories win in a landslide, about half the SCG lose their seats, but the ones with better local support hold on. - You now have a stable left-wing party with a decent commons presence which can put pressure on Labour from the left and start cannibalizing their weaker seats. - that's the dream. Of course if Bojo calls an early election they'd probably get wiped out, but Labour are going to get annihilated no matter what so
