I love all of iannucci’s other work and the acting is alright, the jokes just aren’t there and it’s a huge bummer

Yeah I watched a couple episodes and enjoyed the premise and the characters and the acting, but it just wasn't funny and didn't click for me so I stopped.

I'm juuust arriving in wall market in a bit. I like the gameplay loop and I think I'm fine with most of the changes. Roche leaves fast enough before he can get annoying; I think the most jarring thing is emo tifa?

the last 2 episodes or so are quite good but yeah it just squanders its own premise in favor of having characters endlessly yelling at each other

another really good jake gyllenhall movie from that period that also no one watched was Enemy

i had a very, very long argument with a friend about whether the spiderweb imagery and ending represented fear of women , or an oppressive surveillance state . maybe its both

its also why i say villeneuve's career has gotten worse with every movie, mainly because his first three are insanely good (i think enemy was before prisoners and i am not gonna check). but yeah jake g had a crazy early 10s run with source code, end of watch, enemy, nightcrawler, prisoners, and nocturnal animals

seems pretty clear to me that it was fear of women/commitment. otherwise, why would the big spider at the end act so scared?

but yeah all those gyllenhall movies are real good. though nocturnal animals is an iffy one imo

Frasier spends an entire episode yelling into the radio about how Seattle's $15 minimum wage has destroyed the city. There are no jokes, no cuts. There is no script.

PLATOON is a pretty legit Vietnam movie. It unflinchingly portrays American soldiers committing numerous war crimes ranging from gang rapes to cold blooded executions to vindictively wiping a village off the map (well, it does flinch at a few points, but that's cool, I didn't actually want to see the human being's head caved in by a rifle butt). It's arguably succ in that it depicts several of the US troops as "crusaders" (that's the film's word, used multiple times), implying that the problem with America's Vietnam adventure was merely the war crimes committed by the bad troops rather than the war inherently being a totally criminal and genocidal enterprise. BUT the film redeems itself at the very end, when an American armored vehicle rolls into a battlefield displaying a Nazi battle flag and at least one human skull, because yer man Oliver Stone knows what the American empire is really all about. plus, you get Forest Whitaker, Tony Todd and Keith David, all in one movie. good. poo poo.

Sorry for gushing about The Expanse long after everyone else, but I'm just in one of my phases where I devour an entire show and want to talk about it. This show has a great knack for making me like characters I hated at first. It did it with Miller, and now Ashford.
