I don't know what made me suddenly eligible, my only guess is that the VA in PA got extra doses or enough folks from other brackets got vaccinated. Hopefully it won't be too bad side effect wise, but I work from home anyway.

The only thing I can think of is that the VA is my primary care provider and i'm over 30% service connected?

I qual for the vaccine currently through the VA, and locally in PA- I'll be happy to take my dose, when it's my turn. It's not my turn. I'm an old fat man who's social life changed very little in Q-Time. There is no reason I should be getting jabbed before critical people, and unless you have a good reason (one of my buddy's is a super fit guy, and someone gave him poo poo until he told them his doctor ordered it). I don't get how people can be so god drat selfish. We've been at this for what, 400 days now? A half mil plus dead. And we still have this FYGM attitude so prevalent. gently caress.

I've just gotten to the point where I don't even talk to my 70yo parents about the vaccine anymore. Or, at least, I TRY not to. Not because they're anti-vaxxers, rather because my mother's a dyed-in-the-wool Karen with two perma-hosed knees who wants her shot but doesn't, you know, want to have to inconvenience herself in the slightest by having to stand somewhere for more than five minutes, and my diabetic father leaves the house roughly twice every month and works from home.

It’s about stopping spread and anyone who gets the shot is removing themselves as a link in that chain. The Moderna vaccine has a shelf life (and many areas are starting to see shipments pick up) so on any given afternoon it’s becoming more shots better than (and available vaccination slots that would otherwise go to waste). Your high horse seems unwarranted here. edit: also if you qualify through the VA then at least the one in my area has been screaming for people to get it in before vaccines expire because they're limited in who they can distribute to, so a shot may very well have gone into the trash rather than your arm, good fuckin job Prop Wash fucked around with this message at 11:23 on Feb 26, 2021 |

If you have a chance to get vaccinated, get vaccinated. We need ~70-75% of people to get it for herd immunity to be achieved and we won’t get that if everyone is waiting for everyone else to get one — there’s going to ALWAYS be someone more high risk that needs one before you. We are already going to struggle to achieve that number with anti-vaxxers and chuds.

If people who are working from home and don’t have preexisting conditions are getting this thing in other states then Virginia must really be botching their rollout. I should be pretty high on the list as the primary caregiver for somebody with a chronic, severe medical condition but all I’ve been able to do is “put my name in the system.” I know they’re not at the “critical essential worker” phase of their rollout yet so I’m hoping I would at least get picked up by that since I have a letter from my employer. I’ll try calling the VA today.

Look at it like this If you’re in class and the teacher says 70% of students need to raise their hands in order for the class to go to recess, you’re not doing anyone any favors by waiting for little Jimmy to raise his hand first. Raise your hand now so that we can go to recess faster.

In some areas, cities are taking walk-ins of literally any type at the end of the day, because otherwise they’re throwing it away. It varies a lot, but that’s how a few of my friends got the shot. Just showing up 20 minutes before closing and finding out the medical workers were eager to give shots to anyone who showed up at the end of the day after scheduled/prioritized people had been handled.

RI is still in the "if you're over 65 sign up here and sometime in March we'll probably be done with those". The last roadmap I saw over a month ago from the state put me (40, no complicating health issues) at getting the vaccine in mid/late-May, but we've had 4 straight weeks of reported delays and coverage on how badly the state is rolling this out so I don't think that schedule is correct at this point.

I'm in 1C as an essential infrastructure worker and they flat out said 'it's going to be months before we get to you guys.' CT is doing 35 and up after 4/12 as of the latest roadmap and we're we're at 55 and up now. also we just opened up one the largest vaccination sites in the US at one of the casinos people are mad that the state governor is doing age based rather than CDC recommended rollout. I get that, but from what it sounds like in the other states we're going to be done before everyone else anyways so 🤷♂️

The VA is getting people done faster than states because 1: federal government is pretty good at vaccine distribution when they try and 2: there are a lot if idiots refusing to take the vaccine. If I were waiting on Florida to give me my shot, I’d be stuck waiting til next year because I’m not wealthy enough for DeSantis to care about.

I'm in Illinois in their 1B category, and have been waiting almost a month. Last couple of weeks weather had screwed up shipments as well, I think my county only received something like 4000 doses out of the expected 20,000. On the plus side 5% or 45,000 have received both doses.

bulletsponge13 posted:Your opinion has been noted, and disregarded for future use. If it helps, the people planning vaccinations factored you into their calculations and phased their rollout accordingly, so you're not helping get us into the next phase any quicker - and once we're there you could potentially be taking a slot from someone that does need it and hasn't had access to it yet. States are terrible at communicating this stuff - NC just opened it up to K-12 teachers (all essential workers coming on 10 March). I just checked and their website still doesn't reflect that, you have to look at a tweet from two days ago. One of our friends is a teacher teaching in-person who tried to use their busted website to sign up and got a date in like late April. She was going to just shrug her shoulders and be like "oh well guess that's my slot" until we were like "hey the local hospital's doing shots for K-12 teachers right now, you really should call them" and now she has an appointment for Saturday.

I replied to one of those poo poo VA newsletters with a "Do you want the vaccine? check your eligibility with this form" and they said i had to wait, but would let me know if anything opened up. 3 weeks later they called me on a Thursday and asked if I could come in on a Saturday. Last report I heard was they vaccinated several thousand at the Atlanta VA that day.
