I used to play cards upside down so my opponent could read them better (and turn them around after). And then I (and everyone else) just automatically memorized the cards.

Beeswax posted:edit: also I played mtg in the nineties and lands were never in front, you crazy freaks Apparently in professional play, it was creatures out front pretty early on (I just looked at some footage from the 96 world championships). But in magazines and the earliest official rulebooks, it was lands out front. Check out this magic puzzle from The Duelist. There are several reddit threads about this - apparently it was a regional thing. Remember in the 1990s we weren't nearly as online so regional variations of things could exist. Edit: Apparently it was all over the place in 1994. I don't have the time to watch this all the way through but skipping around you see a lot of lands in front here. Also black lotus being played without a sleeve lmao. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l0U13vCZ4U Hellblazer187 has a new favorite as of 14:13 on Feb 26, 2021 |

Tap all land for 2U and 2R. Cast Flight (1U) on the Keldon Warlord, then use 1R to activate the crystal rod so now you're at 4 life. Tap the Orcish Artillery to deal 2 damage to the Sengir Vampire so he is 3 toughness left (normally 4/4, Unholy Strength makes him 6/5, we have to assume he has no +1/+1 counters from his ability.) You get dealt 3 damage from the artillery, leaving you at 1. Use the remaining 1R to cast Lightning Bolt on the Sengir Vampire, killing him. Use the remaining 1U to cast Merfolk of the Pearl Trident. Attack with the the the Kheldon Warlord, who is now flying and cannot be blocked, who is 6/6 (He is */* where * is the total number of creatures you have on the battlefield, which is 6...Keldon Warlord himself, Merfolk, Oricish Artillery, Clone, Hill Giant, and Sea Serpent.)
