Persona 5 Strikers help: One of the Requests asks me to show a Kaiwan with Makouga to Lavenza. The thing is, I already have a Kaiwan with Makouga. Yet when I go into the Velvet Room nothing happens, not when I come into the room or exit or register the Kaiwan. What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: Restarted the game and it triggered so I guess it was a weird bug?

This is never gonna happen but they should just forbid you from dating crew members in Persona because I don't like how it makes everyone just revolve around you. That way, Kanji could date Naoto and Ann could date Ryuji, as God intended. Random S. Links would be still fine, though.

Have it so you can still date them, but at certain points in the plot if you haven't gotten to the part yet, have a little phone call or meeting with the party member the would date them if you don't asking if you've got romantic interest in them. If you say no, they start dating each other.

Some WRPGs do this like Dragon Age so yeah, I'm all for it in Persona.

I'm all for Kanji x Naoto.

And Chie x Yukiko even though we will absolutely never see that, sadly.

Harrow

Persona could do it with something like Fire Emblem's support systems, although that still centers the player (if only because you have a ton of control over who develops relationships with whom). The other option would be to have it be like, if you get to a party member's rank 9 scene and pick the platonic route, it sets a flag that lets scenes play out where they might enter a relationship with someone else. That or a certain deadline passes, but it'd need to be reasonably well-telegraphed, like maybe a specific date event that happens in like November or something and if you don't take someone on that date then it's possible they date someone else.

But yeah, there are ways to let party members have relationships that don't involve the player character that wouldn't just be "you can't date party members," which I think would just be cutting off story options that do make sense just for the sake of decentering the player character a bit.

She's in both P1 and P2, at least Innocent Sin, IIRC. She's apparently inspired by an idol that the main writer, Satomi Tsdashi, had a crush on, so he wrote her into the plot of the first two Persona games and then had his self-insert date her.

Yeah, but the majority of the cast is still in high school, including Joker, so that may not satisfy the requirement.

Also Persona 2 had adult party members; Innocent Sin had Maya and Yukino, and in Eternal Punishment I think most of the party is adult; at least Maya, Ulala, Katsuya, and Baofu are all adult IIRC. But that game doesn't have the life sim elements like modern Persona.

Some people don't watch the opening movie for fear of spoilers (and if you're a Tales regular, that happens a lot). It's also not immediately obvious about the second bit. I certainly didn't notice it despite knowing of his existence as a party member.

Also the game is like, less than a week old.

He's also on the box-art in Phantom Thief garb. The only way to not know is to not look at the game when you get it, not watch the anime op that plays like 3 minutes in and then ignore every scene he's in after his first one. At which point, you wouldn't care anyway because you're ignoring like half the game's cutscenes already so

I got the game as a digital download on the Switch, so nope, boxart wasn't a thing there.

if they're publicly releasing the info for the world to see and dropping trailers showing him off, its not a spoiler. you can try and go in completely blind and thats valid but its not a spoiler to say something that is assumed to be a known fact and is a selling point of the game. itd be like saying persona 5 having magical powers in it is a spoiler because they dont come up for a couple hours.

I'm only on the second dungeon of Strikers so far, and the game has already included two things that I wanted from P5's story (never played Royal)

One, since the game doesn't have S-Links it seems to have replaced them with optional hangout scenes. Only one I've scene so far is Joker, Ryuji, and Ann overindulging in ramen. Very cute, hope to see more

Also in a scene at Sendai, Ryuji and Morgana get into a brief argument and then apologize to each other :monocle:

Just in general the writing seems a bit tighter. Since there's no calendar management the plot doesn't need to constantly remind you of what to do, so no incessant group texts of "We should get back into the Palace and steal their heart" or "Do you think it worked? Guess we'll wait and see." The writers probably had a better idea going in of what the game was going to be and didn't have to do a ton of rewrites during development.

In my mind the canon scenario for adult Phantom Thieves is :

Ryuji/Morgana/Joker all three take over Leblanc and then no one questions why Ryuji/Joker share the loft upstairs.
Mishima seems to visit daily to write on his blog.

Makoto becomes disillusioned in the Police Academy and instead goes to Law School and works to take down corrupt cops/politicians

Ann becomes a famous model. Ends up with Shiho.

Futaba works as a security engineer

Haru makes her fathers business successful and opens a bunch of organic fast-casual food concepts

Yusuke creates a famous piece of artwork, gets known in Japan. But finds his true calling in teaching. Becomes Madarame but not evil.

Makoto wanting to become a cop is one of the more baffling things to me in Persona 5. I know that Persona 5 is ultimately a pretty idealistic game and the setting includes the concept of the mythical Good Cop (Dojima, Makoto's dad, Zenkichi) but I always thought becoming a defense attorney or, like Solaris suggested, a lawyer who goes after cooked cops would be a better way to achieve her stated goals.

I can't really hold it against her as a character because, well, see above about Persona 5's naive idealism, but I do maybe hold that naive idealism against Persona 5's writers a bit.

I do still like pairing Joker and Makoto, if only because they feel like the two co-leads of the story and Makoto gets some of the most non-social link development out of the whole party. For me it feels right narratively. Now, if the game would let me date Ryuji or Yusuke, maybe I'd have to reconsider.

Yea this is my thinking. I ended up with Makoto on my play through because “uptight honors student ends up with delinquent and they learn from each other” just feels right. Also of all the romance options she has the least amount of baggage.

I think she just wants to be a cop because she’s a idealistic 16 year old and her father was a cop and she thinks that’s the best way to reform the system.

But she will quickly learn ACAB and go on to law school instead because that just makes the most sense for her character growth.

Also yes Joker totally should be with Ryuji or Yusuke. Especially Ryuji.

Most likely to differentiate herself from Sae, who decides to become a defense lawyer by the end of P5.

I do wish she had more 'quirks', since her only real notable ones are FIST OF JUSTICE and being scared of ghosts. She's almost too straitlaced.
