Can I play Oculus desktop games on my quest wirelessly with Virtual Desktop or do you have to use the cable? I am running steam games fine but it was bugging me about the cable when I tried an Oculus game.

Man I just read an article that apparently that gorilla tag game that has had dev updates posted on here is now the most highly rated free vr app on steam with like 45k players! That's awesome!

I haven't played it since the day it came out so I forget, can you do private lobbies in Gorilla Tag? Like if my friend and I wanted to practice without having a bunch of other monkeys running around like they're on fire?

Bonus for private lobby is that you can use both the upper and lower map.

are there any apps that just give you cool scenes to walk around and explore? Google Earth VR is super impressive of course but more sci-fi or fantasy themed would be cool. I'm assuming people have put cool stuff into vr chat but I don't know how to find it

How's Crisis Vrigade (ugh that name) and it's sequel? I just picked up the first one to see if it'll be a fun co-op game, we recently talked about playing actual Time Crisis in VR but this looks better.

Crisis VRigade is really frustrating to play, and not very good. One of our very own in this thread is working on something that looks better, I think they're calling it "Bullet Points", and I think they mentioned working on a demo for it but I don't know if they've released anything yet.

mattfl posted:So I think I wanna get into the whole VR racing stuff, dirt 2 and project cars etc. Racing games are very scalable, so you don't need a supercomputer. Having one is nice though. G29/920 is an excellent buy as a starter wheel. The quality is good enough that it provide good consistent control across many games, and is built to last if you end up getting obsessed. Thrustmaster's t300 is the next step up, but the t150 should be avoided as it doesn't have any of the modular elements of the thrustmaster ecosystem, and just isn't as good as the g29.

Got my headset in and was super impressed with the tutorial stuff so far. Went through that and a little tetris effect with only a headache. I think that's partly with how tight the base strap is on my head, going to swap it out asap. Also there's a gap on the right side of my nose letting light in that I hope the silicon eye covers I ordered will help with. Need to setup sidequest also and try Gorilla lyfe.

Okay, I think last time I didn't get it but I figured out Gorilla Tag tonight and my friend and I had a blast in a private room. Exhausting as hell though, goddamn. prom candy posted:I tried the gorilla game but the movement is too much for me, I'll have to try it again when I'm a bit more acclimatized because it looks hilarious. I felt not so great at first but after moving around in the game for a bit I did get used to it. What I didn't get used to was trying to stop myself from falling over, my feet were sore when I was done because I was doing so much balancing while jumping around.

Yeah I just got my quest yesterday and I'm finding anything with locomotion is rough. I'm easing in with with stuff like Thrill of the Fight and Superhot. I ordered a cable as well because my wifi seems to struggle a bit to keep up with virtual desktop and I've heard dropped frames can make motion sickness way worse. Looking forward to playing more games as I get used to it but I don't want to make myself sick.

I still mostly only do games with teleporting, the games with locomotion always make me feel worse after a session. Games like Thrill of the Fight and Superhot are great because you just move around in your defined space and that's all you need, or you can't move around at all. I've had mine for a couple months and while I'm more acclimated to VR now I still have games that I can't touch, but there's a lot of great stuff out there that aren't fast paced shooters so I don't really miss em. I recently picked up Until You Fall which is a great game and very comfortable to play thanks to the teleporting and the levels you go through being fairly linear.

I’m surprised that the Vive still has so many more users than the rift. I always thought the rift was more popular I should plug the monoculus rift back in and see if I can knock the oculus dk2 off the list

Soundboxing is a bit rough around the edges, and maps are of very mixed quality, but there is a TON of variety and making maps and playing them is a blast. It's also the best workout as you're doing full punch movements the whole time.

Yep, while at first Oculus was at the forefront of VR, the release of CV1 was later than it should have been, and in the end Vive could market themselves like the ones with 'true room scale (tm) VR' and with proper VR controls, the Touch came later. Additionally, Vive had the Steam seal of approval. The second factor is how Oculus has offered some side/upgrades with the Rift S and Quest lineup for affordable price, while the Index price made that no everyone could graduate from Vive to Index. edit: check this graph, mousing over you can see the values of Sept 2019 Rift cv1 35.8% Rift S 13% Vive 32.7% Index 4.9% It was indeed a bit more popular. After initially getting VR just for Beatsaber and playing it a whole lot it almost feels like going to any other rhythm game will suck. I played about an hour of Synth Riders last night after picking it up on a steam bundle deal with Thrill of the Fight and Eleven Table tennis. The latter two of which I totally suck at. The base songs seem to feel better in Synth Riders, but the custom tracks certainly left me wanting in selection and quality. The line riding feels "floaty", though that may be just due to the weakness of the rumble in the rift controllers. The walls often feel like they appear out of nowhere on the default settings, so I oft found myself failing a song because some wall I was supposed to duck under slapped me in the face since I was too busy reading notes.

Yeah, the community of modders and mappers really makes Beatsaber. Synth riders is fun but there's not as much high quality content there. The 'Force' mode is worth a try, it adds a bit of extra complexity as you have to box the notes (which also makes it more of a work out). It's also a lot easier on your wrists. I can't play Beat Saber on Expert+ for more than an hour or so without getting RSI.
