I checked out amazon uk and turns out it's much cheaper to obtain it if you're already in the UK. Just ordered a second hand one for £10. I'll be sure to report back once it arrives and I've had a chance to listen to it. :v:.

I ended up getting the radio version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that way. Shipping it across the ocean was cheaper than finding a copy locally.

I got it as a Christmas present years ago.

From memory it's fairly accurate with the Death and Return of Superman but doesn't cover all of it. ( I don't remember if it had Hal Jordan and Mogul in it.)

They also did a Knightfall one which was all of Knightfall.
Including Bruce being crippled and having a woman with psychic powers fix his spine. I also have that on CD.

The Knightfall one is really good, actually, the guy they got to be Bruce does him with like an old-timey mid-Atlantic accent which makes total sense for the old money family on the east coast the Waynes are.

How the gently caress do end Return of Superman without Mogul? I guess you could leave out Hal Jordan's part in that, but Mogul is kinda key to Superman actually returning.

See that sounds awesome and I'd love to see how they adapted that. I'm guessing it incudes the return of Bruce Wayne?

Unfortunately that one is much harder to find. Minimum £80 and I don't have that kind of money to spare on a curiosity :(

This post gave me a powerful nostalgia filled powerbomb. I once received a comic/cassette called The Untold Legend of Batman where you could listen along to the dialog and fights by reading and listening simultaneously. Someone is threatening Batman with exposing his identity, he goes apeshit on Gotham's underworld.

I think a goon told me the payoff (it's a 3 issue series) is Bruce is somehow threatening himself due to amnesia

Aw, that sucks, it used to be on Audible, but it looks like they lost the rights? Yeah, it's the whole Knightfall trilogy, in little 5 minute chunks, because it was played as an interstitial after... I want to say the Today programme... on Radio 4.

The guy they had as Jean-Paul also went super ham when he's being 'possessed' by St Dumas. It's great.

If you can put up with all the artwork (and needless music at the start) you can "watch" it on YouTube.

(I don't know if this counts as :filez: or not.
If it does, I'll edit the post to remove the link to the video.)

In that case I need to go back and re-listen to the whole thing. (Glad I still have a CD player or two in my house.)

I know that there was some stuff they cut out of the adaption, because there is always something cut out of an adaption of Death of Superman.

I swear, it's like Bram Stoker's Dracula. Nobody has done a complete "line for line" faithful adaption

It's got to have everything! Including Doomsday closing a car door on somebody's head.

The thought of BSS gave me the willpower to lift that machinery. Or at least check them for signs of mechanical stresses that were causing electrical motor failures.

Superman Doomsday and Beyond was a really weird adaptation since they didn't seem willing to simplify anything or throw it out and the result was front loading a ton of exposition and then rapidly running over plot points in the last third. Maybe the strangest thing was that everything else down to the Kryptonian warsuit was explained in detail except Hank Henshaw who they suddenly cram in a full explanation of his original story during the final confrontation. It probably needed to be longer than it was even if they trimmed out things like the Justice League and Steel getting his guns off the street; there's no time to develop the four replacement Supermen or the impact of Superman's death.

The best things in the drama were the bits lifted verbatim from the comic, surprisingly enough. Like Luthor gloating over Superman's grave; completely over the top delivery but it's exactly what that scene needed.

The accents were... interesting. I've heard enough British audio productions so I'm used to their attempts at American accents and these were special even by those standards. Texan(?) Guy Gardner was a standout on the front.

I can honestly say I wasn't expecting much going in, but it was solid enough. I wouldn't say spend $40 on it like that Amazon listing, but for something free off of that tubular site I don't feel bad for listening to it.

It was this weird little period some 25 years ago (give or take) where Radio One would squeeze in a mid-afternoon audio drama for 5-10 minute chapters amid its usual song playlist stuff. I never heard the Death of Superman adaptation but did catch some of their Knightfall and Judge Dredd ones. I remember thinking they sounded surprisingly good back in the day but not listened to them since, plus you were stuffed if you missed a chapter here or there.
