Between this and the Sesame Street set they are really pulling on the nostalgia strings from both my childhood and what we read / watched with my kid.

While I'm of the opinion that they totally hosed up the blacksmith in regard to the original design, in this case they actually made a wonderful set out of that pretty boring ideas entry (I have no nostalgia for Winnie the Pooh). I really like that.

Still hope the thing that they did to the Blacksmith entry was to make it in line with the castle or whatever (and hopefully a full series) that's coming this year in regard to castles.

Do we know when the amelia earhart GWP happens? I'm guessing monday the 8th because that's international women's day and the page for the set mentions they made it in honor of the day.

I guess Rock Raiders and Insectoids at least yielded some cool unique pieces. Stingrays were weird for the minifig heads but again probably too creative to belong in the bottom 10. I disagree regarding Scala because there are so many great (wrongly sized) pieces. They’ve yet to do a better milk carton!

For the new Pooh set I like the build and don't care about the figs. What an experience change for me! Usually I'm buying the set just for the figs. I'm thinking I'm going to try to get that Amelia Earhart set next week. I've got a doctor's appointment in the area of the Lego store so it won't be a big step for me to try to get it. I don't care about airplanes at all, but it would make a good gift for a friend that does love airplanes.

I've found they tend to have the sets in the store. It's really online where the issues of items getting sold out happens. I guess Lego wants to make sure their stores are stocked first.

Pretty solid list I think. I do like RoboRiders and Time Cruisers but they weren't good themes. Wasn't part of the reason Time Cruisers even exists to use up surplus parts from other discontinued themes? I also thought that Slizers had already done it's run by then (as more or less a prototype for Bionicle) and RoboRiders was just a stopgap as Bionicle proper wasn't quite ready by then.

Straight White Shark posted:

Lego rebranded Duplo as Explore in the early 2000s and also made a whole bunch of expensive toys in that brand that had little if anything to do with traditional Duplo. It was a colossal failure and one of the main reasons Lego almost went bankrupt around then.

The core issue was that Lego was trying to reinvent itself and had hired a whole bunch of hotshot designers who, while by all accounts good designers, didn't understand Lego and the Lego system. That's why you had themes like Galidor and Jack Stone where the sets were mostly made up of a few large specialist parts and almost no traditional bricks/plates/slopes etc. As you can imagine, people hated it and didn't buy it since, in a lot of ways, it was Lego in name only.

There were also other issues like terrible organisation and bookkeeping so there were many sets which were being sold at a loss at RRP.

Just wanted to chime in that Carbohydrate's Mustang builds made me finally buy the Creator Mustang even though I already have the Ecto-1 in the mail. Speaking of the Ecto, it's €200 at Lego but I found it for €165 and a week after, prices went to €155 and today €145. What's the deal with that? I can live with not having the best bargain but this seems weird. Different retailers, probably actively undercutting offers but it's weird.

Lego's raggedy rear end customer service communication system has let me come out slightly ahead. Fedex misdelivered a lego shipment of mine. I knew it wasn't stolen because I watched the truck blow by my house and got the delivery notice like 10 minutes later. So I emailed lego. Then the next day a neighbor brought the package, so I emailed again telling lego that one of my neighbors got the misdelivery and brought it to me and no further steps would be necessary. But lego then emailed like two weeks later saying they were sorry that happened and that they would send out a replacement. It's just a small set so I don't feel bad, but it's silly that they don't have a more cohesive support system that would make it easier to link support requests to follow-ups.

Well, they're working within a totally different set of constraints. LEGO's is a toy, and has to be robust enough to be handled like a toy. Mine is able to get away with a lot more because it's not going on a store shelf and I don't have a design budget or anything, you know? I generally think LEGO does a great job within their own limitations, though admittedly the Mustang is not my favorite of their models.

But of course, from a thief's perspective, the best kind of ladder is the rope-ladder. A step-ladder is much too heavy to carry around, after all.
does BrickLink have a system that I'm just not seeing for finding the cheapest option for buying parts from a list using multiple sellers? I'd love to put together Carbohydrates' Mustang, but when I import it and search for that list, it ends up being pretty pricy from sellers who have most of the pieces. of course, I'll probably end up sourcing some pieces from my collection if/when I put it together, which will bring the price down, but is there a "find the cheapest combination of stores" button I'm missing somewhere?

Assuming you're using the tool to put your parts list into carts, you can set max prices for each part as well as what condition you want. That does require you to actually research the average cost of parts though. It would be nice if you could just click a button and you could get "average price + %" or something to make sure you're getting near the average without missing out on some parts that are slightly above average in a store. Buying pieces on bricklink is quite laborious and takes the longest time aside from designing/building.

Yeah, getting the best price outta BL takes some real work and time, even for smaller models. Use the automatic tools a couple times to identify which specific parts you're getting kind of ripped off on, and then set maximum prices for those parts and try again. Try it a couple times with "Select stores when item price is lower than store Minimum Buy" both on and off, in case the system is omitting a really good store for being, like, 2 cents below its minimum buy or something.

If I just hit Easy Buy, the non-geared version comes out to $46 pre-shipping, with one of those orders coming from Spain with expensive shipping costs, too. After about 10-15 minutes of playing with the buy / auto select settings, price capping a couple parts, and manually blocking a couple stores, and then set to North America only to save on shipping, I can get it down to $26 pre-shipping.

Anyway, here's this! My FIL gave me a little birthday money and I was able to order one of my many backlogged cars :v:.

Also, design stream at 7PM CST!

Been working on this Blade Runner 2049 Spinner for a couple of days. I'm pretty happy with the front, and kinda happy with the back end. But the middle has got me stumped for the moment. I'm considering the two different windscreens. The top one tapers towards the top, which is closer to the original. But the bottom one lets me get a steeper tilt and is 6 studs instead of 8 wide at the bottom, which gives me more options for attaching the doors. hosed if I know what I'm going to do with those.
