that's the most realistic thing about his show really surviving on your own in a harsh wilderness is awful, and only just barely edges out the alternative

The Yukon setup is especially hassle free since the provincial capital of Yellowknife is right there on the water. Keeping a boat ready is way cheaper than keeping a helicopter crew on standby.

He’s miserable and bitching about working the cameras the whole time. I’m hoping that the Primitive Technology dude is getting a cable series soon. He’s amazing. He doesn’t talk so turn on subs, they explain what is happening. https://youtu.be/-cgQUrdBoaM

Stroud talks about moving the cameras a lot because the show was made for basic cable, not streaming five episodes in a row like I do

What are the Alone rules about moving camp? Could one contestant hunt down another and eat them? Seems pretty fair.

They have to stay in a designated zone. The boundaries are marked and I think they’re supposed to get a message on one of their emergency devices if they stray.

There were a couple of times in the Vancouver seasons you could see boats in the background, and someone posted Sam's site from GPS and it was pretty close to a home. I think you could cheat pretty easily by begging the locals for help is what I'm getting at.

I'll pay you $5,000 out of my prize money if you dead drop a protein bar at this spot every day. I mean, you control the filming.

It's a shame the show is filmed by the contestants themselves. Because I'm laughing at the idea of one of them getting so hungry that they raid a family having a picnic and there's just camera and sound men following along doing nothing while a guy shoves people away to get their lunch.

As a kid I always wanted to see someone on Survivor go full Apocalypse Now and take the camera crew hostage in exchange for food. Or eat the camera crew. Either/or.

Moving away from Survival shows for a second, we watched a film last night called Time Trap, a low budget film about a bunch of students who go into a weird cave to rescue their teacher who had gone missing in there. I won't spoil it too much but it has some genuinely creepy moments and a really fun concept, I am now going to go ahead and assume any missing people have found an entrance to this cave. the cave holds the Fountain of Youth, which is protected by ever increasing zones of time dilation, meaning that time passes super quick outside. There are people from all over time who have gone in, some cavemen and cowboys and conquistadors. All the ropes they use to climb down break, not because, as they initially think, that someone is cutting them, but through erosion. Our team of teens manage to get out and live in a cool new superfuture, countless millennia away from their own time. It was a fun watch and any lovers of this thread will probably enjoy the caving aspect. Solid 7/10.

It was believed that hermits radiated kindness and thoughtfulness, so advertisements were placed in newspapers for “ornamental hermits” who were lax in grooming and willing to sleep in caves on the country estates of the aristocracy. The job paid well and hundreds were hired, typically on seven-year contracts. Some of the hermits would even emerge at dinner parties and greet guests. Can't wait for this to make a return. It's the perfect goon job.

Did I have a fever dream, or was there some sort of Alone that was in Russia, where there were no rules? Like, they could flat up murder other contestants, and it was all no holds barred? I'm pretty sure I remember hearing about it, but was it a media stunt, or a buncha hogwash, or did my brain just come up with something like that? e- I did have a dream last night, of an ultra marathon, but they could fight the other people and kick each others asses so bad they'd have to quit. blight rhino fucked around with this message at 21:37 on Mar 13, 2021 |
