Not that I don't think this happens some places, but at least in the area I live it's not very commonplace.

Honestly you're probably having trouble parrying because the parry frames are way different from Dark Souls 1. Dark Souls 2, there's a bunch of startup frames for every weapon (9-39) where parries don't work, followed by a variable number of active frames (4-18, again weapon dependant) and then some recovery frames (39-60). The only weapon that functions like Dark Souls 1 parries is the Monestary Scimitar, with frame data of 0/18/49, and that's a New Game Plus weapon. Also probably relevant to this, is this chart comparing roll data between souls games. You can see you need like 105 AGI to get anywhere close to having a roll that feels like the good DS1 rolls, and even then you've got a bunch of recovery frames.

They did darken a few areas and that was fun Like that one optional underground dungeon path in the forest of fallen giants, now it’s dark and filled with skeletons and you definitely need a torch, but also you can summon a mage NPC in there who will cast the Light spell for you, it’s a very nice touch!

So a while back I was bitching about Infinite Space not putting in a proper tutorial on things like combat and assigning crew and modules and other basic things needed to play the game. Also, thanks to charliefoxtrot for posting the P5 curry. I made my own based off of it but heavily modified for the wife and kid and it was drat good. Had mine with rice, hummus and an egg while the wife and kid had theirs with rice noodles in a sauce. Good stuff.

Whelp, the nice couple we've been renting from for the last five years have to sell the property we live in, so... off I go househunting during a pandemic. Awesome. In other news heading to Skellige in Witcher 3. Novigrad and Dandelion was a big step down from Bloody Baron, I hope the game regains its footing. Overall it's obviously much more polished than Witcher 2 but I feel like 2 was more ambitious. Less filler, better momentum in the plot. 3 is still a phenomenal game in its own right, I'm just surprised at how different the 'feel' of the game is from 2, it's like the RPG equivalent of the differences between 2D and 3D Mario platformers. Also after all the technical glitches I've seen in this game, the complete meltdown of Cyberpunk makes a lot of sense. That game was never not going to be jank city.

feelin kind of melancholy about playing Valheim tonight, seems like we'll "beat it" tonight and have nothing else to work towards. Usually after work I log in to make us food, gather materials, build poo poo, etc, but our castle is pretty much done and we're well prepared for whatever the last boss is. So far no boss took more than one try. It was a lovely co-op experience while it lasted. Can't wait to see what this game ends up being in several years on a re-play or even just when folks have had enough time to make some beefy mods. There's room for pokemon in Valheim, I'd wanna try a skyblock version, and I'll be genuinely surprised if at some point there isn't a mod to add advance materials science and requisite crafting and mechanical stuff to build your own oil pumps and whatever.
