I saw an alt-history anthology once where the back blurb pitched a North Loses Civil War scenario in which a disgraced Lincoln becomes a Champion of Communism and tries to agitate the Slaves and Poor Whites to set aside their racial difference and crush Capitalism in glorious Revolution. Where is this calling her a whore and excall girl stuff coming from? I know they hate women and anyone not their specific brand of white, but huh? Is it just because she "married above her rank" thing I see people bitching about? Side note, it's funny how the idea of marrying into royalty is enshrined in fairy tales and is basically a genre on hallmark and yet a poo poo ton of people seem irrationally angry that someone who isn't them managed to do exactly that.

It's more that Nixon allowed the Democratic House and Senate to establish the EPA to prevent more radical action, but I'm not sure if anti-environmentalism really became a central GOP issue until Reagan.

Many modern knee-jerk self-destructive attitudes can be traced back to Reagan and his cronies. The GoP was a corrupt and racist institution before that for sure (Southern Strategy, etc.) but there's a difference between Goldwater's Capital worship and Reagan's complete hatred of anyone he didn't see in a Rockwell painting.
