The phone was just a phone, not a translation device. D was speaking japanese with her and isekai-language with the other guy

I'm going to go with "guttural spider screeches" because it's funnier and because it's very in keeping both with our protagonist and how she's being presented to us. This episode opened with a scene that among other things shows that Kumoko's appearance in the anime is not what she actually looks like, so it's a fairly natural follow-up to assume that when she tries to talk she does not actually sound like Aoi Yuki delivering Japanese in a madcap, stream-of-consciousness style.

Well lookitthat, I was right!

Sadly they didn't get Aoi Yuki to deliver the horrible spider screeches. For shame.

It's real suspicious that Kumoko has no name, even in past episodes when she was looking at her skills sometimes it would show that she has no name.

Now granted I don't know what it could mean, but it makes me suspicious.

now that ive seen the lyrics to the ED, it would be very funny if all this demon army nonsense had nothing to do with humanity and was just kumoko on a quest trying to kill D out of petty spite for giving her the worst start imaginable and not making her a pretty magical girl, like she says in the lyrics.

I guess a name is something one is given in this world, considering that Hugo's name is Hugo and not whatever his preincarnation name was. It'd be funny if one could name oneself and the only reason she is still No-Name is because she hasn't thought to/cared to do so yet.

That level 19 has a real big asterisk beside it though, since every time she evolves her level is reset too.

You probably have to be named by someone in order to get an official name.

Can't wait for Kumoko to make a dragon friend, found a nation where she names all the monsters, and they all look real cute and awesome to each other but look like a collection of terrifying nightmares to everyone else.

Thinking about it, I wonder if next episode will rewind a little, or if we'll just flat-out skip some fairly important scenes... LN/Manga spoilers: Aren't we missing a scene where she meets a group of adventurers that are hurt, she heals them, and they give her fruit? Or am I getting mixed up on scene order?

(LN Spoilers) They've actually skipped two scenes with humans. Originally there was a group of soldiers sent to investigate why the monsters were evacuating the Labyrinth, who saw Kumoko and immediately ran away. Then she saves some adventurers from a snake and they give her fruit, and then Ronandt and Buirimus are sent to exterminate her.

Looking forward to the big battle in the next episode and even more to the speculation in this thread when everyone finds out what Taboo lv10 does.

If it's downloading information maybe Taboo allows you to access information that shouldn't be available like the nature of the game mechanics? Or sets you up to be an administrator?

You can safely read LN's 1 and 2 and not have any spoilers for the anime now. LN 3 is kinda getting pulled apart and re-arranged by the anime at the moment so I can't really say it's safe to read just yet if you want to avoid spoilers.

I feel like it's also been somewhat concealed by the perspective of the shots used that make her look really small compared to the large rooms and tunnels she's crawling around in. And her more cartoony version looks a lot slimmer and smaller compared to what the human perspective shows, so maybe she perceives herself as smaller than she is. For example when she was talking to Admin guy last episode the way it was shot made it seem like she was about a foot tall compared to him (I guess he could just be a giant) and the phone.

This exactly.

We've been seeing her from Kumo's perspective and she views herself as a cute little spider.

Her encounter with the humans who burned down her first house also verifies that she sees herself being maybe a 1/3-2/3 of a meter tall, as both she and the humans were pictured next to the egg in different scenes.

I wish they showed some of Kumoko's other encounters with humans during that time, as others have mentioned in this thread.

Curious to hear any anime-only peeps' thoughts on the new characters we met this episode, Ronandt, Buirimus, and the two new princes shown.

These are the voice credits for episode 10. You can see 4 Aoi Yuki's at the top of the list for all 4 of Kumoko's minds. Then, at the bottom of the list, is a credit for 'spider monster'.

Oh, and one other thing -

What the hell was Kumoko making? These weird emblems were strung up all over her home. This detail wasn't in the source material, so I have no idea what this is.

Maybe it's supposed to be like the the things that would get strung across rivers to detect people fording, but they're pretty high up in the air. I have no idea what they're called or if they were an actual historical thing, but I'm fairly certain I've seen them in other media. That said, they're kind of high up in the air so it's probably more of a noisemaker in case someone runs into the web.

She made those in episode 2 when she got her first nest destroyed by the humans, they made a noise to tell her what direction something was stuck in her web at.

Also something explained in the manga during Kumoko's fight with the summoned beasts was what "Height of Occultism" was actually doing. It allows her to learn magic without spending skill points on it
