lol if you think the US MIC is decaying, watching the PLA/N going to war would be funny with forces that haven’t seen combat in a generation. Trying to critique the US military from the left by arguing that they wouldn’t be as effective in conventional combat is a losing argument I’m reminded of teary eyed leftist podcasters talking about Soleimani and how Iran would have some cunning revenge attack of the perfect proportionality

You see that sucker going and steam’s going all over the place, there’s planes thrown in the air.” quote:"Steam's only worked for about 65 years perfectly. And I won't tell you this because it's before my time by a little bit, but they have a $900 million cost overrun on this crazy electric catapult. They want to show — next, next, next. And we all want innovation, but it's too much," Trump told the sailors on Monday. Trump was right

Yeah, the increasingly open apologism going on in Japan for wartime fascists isn’t a great look but also pretty baked in after Kishi took power. The US military has plenty of punch left but much of that is from modernization of late Cold War equipment, the real boondoggles have been since 2000.

One thing though is we have chronically underestimated both Chinese spending and capabilities by not properly adjusting for PPP. The vast majority of their equipment is either produced locally or bought from the Russians and their soldiers are paid in Yuan. Their costs are naturally going to be lower than ours. Nevertheless, they still spend about half what we do adjusted. That said, Chinese spending is rapidly increasing and if not gaining. Unfortunately, this also only gives the MIC more ammo to expand budgets in return. Ardennes has issued a correction as of 02:33 on Mar 13, 2021 |

F35 is not that bad of a plane, compare to the competition. But China has a AA missile that's twice the range. Anyway I am very glad Maverick is not flying a F35 in Topgun 2: Electric Boogaloo.

the chapo episodes right after solemani got blown up were hilarious - will menaker was weeping about how this was going to presage a wider conflict in the ME, and the interview with the war nerd had him talk ominously about the iranians were well-trained and would have a decisive and exquistely proportioned counterstrike that would make the US pay and then whoops, they shoot up a passenger plane

it literally doesn't matter how combat ready the troops are because you have nukes, that's the secret sauce. China and the US are invincible because of this. China could have a single hot dog floating in the ocean and would be able to fend off any US attack because of the 400+ ICBMs they have

China should put ships full of straw off coastal waters and collect US bombs dropped off them to be reused - call this the zhuge liang stratagem and get some Chinese academics to write books about it I’m sick of westerners using Greco-Roman parallels (e.g Thucydides trap or the declining Roman core versus periphery), let’s get a bunch of Chinese historical allusions in the mix
