Lmao at anybody believing in the Mets. They're the Mets. Theyre gonna win like 80 games and the Braves'll run away with the East again. Same as it ever was.

Can't wait for the Braves' ownership to pull a Cleveland and trade Acuna and Fried for pennies on the dollar because they want to save money.

Also can't wait until this season, when the Mets are gonna beat the pants off the rest of the NL East.

Braves need to be buying out the rest of Freeman's career, wondering what that's going to leave them in terms of trying to buy extra years of Soroka and Fried, or maybe before long Anderson and Pache. Still a decent chance this bunch remains the core of the team for a good while though.

I wonder if there comes a point where that makes it harder to sign international players

Or maybe the owners will get their way and there'll be an international draft

One thing to keep an eye this season is to see how much Cardinals management and local press are going to carry water for Matt Carpenter. He really belongs nowhere near the lineup, but you're still getting pre-season pieces talking about how he just needs to turn a corner and he'll be able to platoon or even start at 2B.

Ender Inciarte missing time with some thumb problem should lock up the starting job for CF Christian Pache but unless contrary to reports they do have some trick up their sleeve they kinda do need Ender as the fourth OF/Ozuna sub.

Reportedly looking into Maikel Franco as a bench piece? It's a pretty thin bench.

It's super weird no one signed him for so long. Duvall is great! If he had been healthy for the NLCS, the Braves would have won the world series.

Huh, never knew this happened. Man I wouldn't want to be the pitcher who let a 59 year old non-player run a full count before striking out

wow this was 13 years ago.

I remember the pitcher had some not so nice things to say after the game, pretty much calling the whole thing an embarrassing joke for baseball.

we had a beer league softball game that ended in a tie and the umps left but we just decided to keep playing so i was able to illegally bat out of order and hit a walkoff dinger that we decided to count as our only win of the season.

Don’t forget Garth Brooks getting a spring training invite from the Padres for three consecutive years and playing in multiple games.

Coming out of high school, Russell Wilson was definitely considered more of a baseball prospect than a football one; he got drafted pretty late because of signability questions but the Orioles offered him a signing bonus more in line with someone taken in the top 10 rounds.

so the terribleness of the orioles organization dissuaded him from baseball and into a football career? seems fair.

Another spring commute
For the second year in a row, the Dodgers have re-upped Toles on a minor league deal even though he's no longer with the organization and won't actually get paid since he's on the restricted list, because it allows him continued access to MLB health insurance and he's been going through some serious mental health problems for a couple years now.

A friend of mine had a psychotic break last year and I got to experience first hand all of the same agonizing issues that were mentioned by his family when Toles' health issues first came to light - namely that if they're a legal adult with money and no history of actually hurting or threating anybody there's almost nothing you can do to force somebody undergoing paranoid schizophrenia to get much needed treatment - so I very much appreciate this gesture in case it somehow manages to get Toles the help and medication he needs. :smith:
