If people are making quality of life mods again can someone please make a mod that adds the NCR Emergency Broadcast to radios or intercoms during the battle of Hoover Dam so I dont have to give up on the awesome Iron Zur music while I'm listening to reports on how the rest of the Mojave is faring? It definitely takes something away from the finale when you don't have Dam Nation blasting in the background.

I just played the dam battle and had that radio available. Not entirely sure what mod added it but looking through FNVEdit I find a bunch of references to it in Uncut Wasteland's "Extra Collection" plugin. Try that.

e: I'm dumb. It's a radio in the base game, you want it playing from physical objects a la the strip / freeside / casinos. Ignore me.

No I know the radio is available, my issue is that when you play radio frequencies it cancels out the ambient Iron Zur music. If you listen to the emergency radio the battle of Hoover dam the rest of the battle sounds very anticlimactic without the combat music. If you hear a radio station coming through a radio set you can turn on and off in the game world, Inon Zur's music still plays.

Fixed another pet peeve, inspired by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUQEfED6ok4. I dunno if anyone else has ever done it. Basically if you use Follower Formula Redone (recommended in VNV) or any other mod that increases the number of companions, some of them will follow you into Mr House's penthouse.

https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/71619 Fixed that by adjusting the script a little bit. I'd like to see it incorporated in a bugfix or FFR itself, though, since it's just one record.

God I hope I can get a job soon.

Ive noticed that using a Ulysses companion mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/48600/) he would sometimes follow me into the Penthouse, if I am reading this right this should fix it, correct?

No, it won't fix it, I do note on the mod page that this can only impact vanilla companions. The game has no global variable for companions and can only tell individual companions to do certain things, so you'd need to add an additional if block to the script for it to impact Ulysses.

I haven't tested it, since I don't use that mod, but I've made a quick and dirty patch for you that should work: https://eyearesee.warhaggis.com/upl...esCompanion.esp

Use this in place of the main esp on the mod page. Let me know if it works and I'll upload it as an optional file!

It's all good, not really champing at the bit to try and support all the custom companion mods, just doing a favour for a goon. That file's not gonna go anywhere, so feel free to grab it whenever you like!

It'd be awesome if I could bundle as many custom companions into one esp as possible, but because of the way the plugin system works I'd have to have a bunch of different ESPs with all the various companions added as master files and that's just not fun.

I would love it if this game had more modular scripts to make stuff like that easier.

goddamn it modding this game is driving me up the loving wall

how do I get the loving thing to stop crashing on load screens, for fucks sake. i've done all the VNV fixes, i've got the memory patched, tick fix, nvac, i've done it all. and still it crashes. nvac logs doesn't even give me any sort of error messages to work with anymore. i've checked and rechecked the load order. i thought it was ENB at first after i got rid of it but within 15 minutes, boom, same thing.

i know it's not a hardware issue because whenever it isn't crashing on load screens it's buttery smooth limited at 60 fps. i guess the only thing left to do is uncheck every loving mod and go one by one

does this just not work right on windows 10 or what

Hello thread. It's about that time where I'm getting that itch to spend three weeks perfectly tuning a mod list for a game I haven't played in nearly a decade, and then spend 4 hours playing that game and forgetting about it until I need hard drive space and am wondering why that folder is 50 gigabytes a year from now.

SO! I understand that the cool hip thing to do is just follow the Viva New Vegas mod guide for the most part. Neat! This seems mostly in line with my own philosophy of mostly wanting a Vanilla+ type of experience, etc. etc., rather than exploring the various dark corners of nexusmods anime pederasty.

BUT, the VNV guide explicitly doesn't bother with any graphical enhancement stuff in the name of performance. That's all well and good, but I have a really sick gaming computer for the first time in forever, and I want to bring it to it's knees. But also, I don't want to gently caress around with too much jank either. With that in mind, is something like this texture mod and just set and forget my best option? Is there a better up to date guide for graphical updates that's compatible with/comparable to Viva New Vegas?

Additionally, a thing I remember fondly is radio mods that add more songs and make the whole thing less repetitive. What's the best option for that sort of thing?

Also also, I recall mods to delay DLC quest triggers until reaching specific levels/story breakpoints being a thing. What's the preferred one of those?

And finally, is using https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/71609 gonna break anything with the above?

Viva New Vegas includes Delay DLC which will solve your DLC delaying problem. It's pretty great.

For Wild Wasteland as a not-trait I would suggest Better Character Creation. Apart from anything else it makes character creation less of a slog, but it also includes adding Wild Wasteland as a not-trait.

TEXTURES. Here's the thing about VNV and texture opinions: The author doesn't actually play FNV, he just mods it and complains about it, so his thoughts on texture packs decreasing performance can just be ignored. The only thing that is true re textures and performance is that the engine can't handle anything over a 2k normal map, and a lot of texture packs insist on including 4k normal maps. One example is the LARGE version of the NMC Texture Pack, which is visually identical to the medium pack but includes 4k normal maps. You get reduced performance for no gain at all!

With that in mind I don't know about the weird Russian 4k pack and whether it uses absurdly large normal maps or not. Your best bet is try it and see. Mod Organizer makes it super easy to swap in and swap out texture packs; if you decide the performance loss from that pack isn't worth it you can just untick it, no harm done to the actual game files.

My preferred texture set up is NMC overwriting the Poco Bueno texture pack but I know not everyone loves the different colour scheme.

In my experience these are contradictory statements. Also that massive texture mod you linked looks like a nightmare. Honestly vanilla textures are fine and all of the replacements I've tried had their own issues.

That texture pack looks nice but it's obscenely large and for all you gotta go through to download and install it you may as well stick with the tried and true all time hits.

Here's what I'm running and I think the game looks great without using 4k textures for everything:

1 - NMC's Texture Pack as a base. Installed first.

2 - Poco Bueno Texture Pack installed second to get a number of things NMC didn't. It'll overwrite some of NMC's textures too. You could install this first and NMC second, it honestly comes down to personal preference. This is mine.

3 - MGs Neat Clutter Retextures covers all the little poo poo the other two packs don't.

4 - Wasteland Flora and Terrain Overhaul. Get the main file and install the 'fertile' version. Also download and install the 'alternate grass atlas' file. Finally, and this is all personal preference, download and install the 'UHQNV Rocks - Road and Terrain Overhaul' file. These better match vanilla aesthetic and that's what you're going for, right?

4.5 - Less Fertile Wasteland Flora Overhaul is installed on top of WFO. It removes the new trees scattered around the Mojave while keeping the rest of the new fauna.

5 - Smooth Sky - Advanced Sky Gradient simply replaces the low res sun & glare texture with a crisp 4k texture. Ever look at the sky and notice a sort of blocky, grainy texture that moves around when you look around? This mod fixes that.

6 - PM's Med Textures. HD med & chem retexture that looks great.

Finally, once/if you have all of this installed, take a look at this guide and generate some LOD: https://www.reddit.com/r/FalloutMods/comments/ka2s1p/fnv_the_guide_on_how_to_get_the_best_lod_possible/

This will cover pretty much everything except creatures/people, clothing, & weapons since those things tend to need a lot of patches and there's a lot of options for those but the rest of this will serve you well 99% of the time.

e: that 4k pack is 20GB lmao hell yeah it has 4k normal maps

I'm looking through it and idk how I feel. I just did VNV like two weeks ago and have been happy, if I'd have done it now I'm not sure how I'd feel and The Living Desert and that truck. I like the sparseness of the Mojave, adding more stuff just to have more #content feels weird.

The Living Desert is really great, my only objection to the mod is the post-LR Tunneler spawns. It's not #content it's just more beasties and angry people.

The sparseness of the desert is a thing, but it falls apart when someone tells you Black Mountain is a thriving Super Mutant community and there's only like 5 of them there.
