Ultimates didn't age well but they were honestly a breath of fresh air when they came out in 2002 (was it so long ago :psyduck:). Well, the first 2 not the other dreck where the blob ate someone or whatever

They felt like a prototype test on how they could try to make marvel superheroes into something more akin to blockbuster action heroes

Avengers as a title had been in a slump for some years back then, and many of the core marvel heroes just weren’t doing well. Ultimates was a breath of fresh air for the whole property.

Everyone harping on ultimates seems to forget marvel's previously aborted attempt to relaunch their classic books: heroes reborn. The series that gave us liefeld's famous 'refrigerator door chest' captain america. In contrast the ultimate comic series isn't so bad.

Ultimates vol 1 and 2 I remember being pretty good and hell had a decent mystery to it (we even had a thread for it here, Who betrayed the Ultimates?). And then it went to poo poo and then Ultimatum came out and I lost interest in the Ultimate line except for Miles Morales stuff.

I don’t think she is like a bad actress or anything, I just mean I literally hate every single character she plays and this was no exception. I figured she was included because she’s been a bit part character actress in every TV show for the last 30 years, I never thought they’d make her a big villain.

nthing "the ultimates was good at the time". i liked when Steve visits Bucky & Gail and realizes how much a man out of time he is and what he missed out on, which certainly is a foundation for what he did in Endgame. it also sowed the seeds for bro-energy Thor and literally calling for casting Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury so it was definitely influential on the MCU.

Its strange, because I saw a lot of people hyped about her appearance, but this was the first thing I am ever cognizant of seeing her in. I guess I just haven't watched her past shows.

This always seemed ultra out of character for a guy who fought in WW2 and probably worked with french resistance fighters to take back Paris.

This is just from memory, but I'm not sure if she's ever been the lead in a show or movie. I think her biggest role was one of her earliest, the receptionist for the medical examiner's office in Crossing Jordan. But that character is almost the complete opposite of what she gets typecast as now. She was more reserved and shy, so it's interesting that now she always seems to play the larger-than-like, boisterous character.

That's Mark Millar for you. It was also peak post 9/11, a time of rah rah jingoism, USA #1, and Freedom Fries.

also if I'm being totally honest, she looked loving ridiculousness as a floating purple ursala witch. Both Visions and Wanda looked much more natural floating in the air (wire harness practice?) but I was just completely taken out of the spectacle of the anime style DBZ fights because she seriously looked like a frowny face stormcloud that you'd give a child for bad attendance.

I've never heard of either of these things. I had to look up who she was in Parks and Rec and yeah I guess I remember that character. I'm always amazed people in this forum can just whip out relatively unknown actor's filmographies from memory, I don't know anyone but like the biggest names.

Putting aside the obvious aspect, the thing I did enjoy in Ultimates is that it has done of the best laid out action scenes I’ve ever seen in a comic. every characters position, movements are all established really clear like it’s a storyboard for a movie (I think millar does literally see himself as writing comics with the expectation they’re movie pitches), it’s especially obvious in 3 when Millars out, Loeb is writing and suddenly characters are just suddenly appearing out of nowhere and blasting each other.

Millar doesn't just see himself as doing that, he does do that. His Millarworld line was specifically created to give him maximum control over movie options. But the layout on Ultimates is all Bryan Hitch, who specialises in a cinematic style. The combination of the two is what makes Ultimates work, even when it really shouldn't have.

There was a launch event for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and it included two new clips at the end:

If the timestamp doesn't work, skip to 23:08. First clip is Bucky having a flashback to his murder days, which looked very cool, second one is Sam on a mission.
