You know, that outfit's not much better than her normal clothes, but I think it'd make a nice change for a while, though I suspect it's not making it out of this story (and probably not out of tomorrow's comics, let's be honest).

I guess we're supposed to assume Samantha is lying, and the cat's right about it being an accusing pause, because I can't think of another intentional interpretation that would make sense.

I really hate this Funky Winkerbean storyline. Every church I've been to the people there, especially the older people, treat the congregation as an extended family. That someone died and their only concern is who plays the organ next just comes across as sociopathic.

Some Guy TT

It would not at all surprise me to learn that Batuik has never actually been to a church nor does he know any other people who have gone to one and literally just thinks people go there because they love free organ music.

I, frankly, would not be at all surprised to learn that Batiuk is, in fact, an alien forced to pull a 3rd Rock from the Sun, because he constantly shows that he knows absolutely nothing about anything. There are so many Funky Winkerbeans and Crankshafts that don't make any sense because the actual reality is so far from what's depicted that it's obvious that Batiuk has never actually done or used the thing he's talking about. The one I remember is complaining about not knowing where you left off on Netflix (leading to a "joke" about 'oh, that's why binge watching is a thing'), but Netflix actually has a way to tell you where you were, and even if you finished the episode or not. And it's constant! Batiuk doesn't know how the comic industry works, or how the movie industry works, or how traumatic brain injury works, and then constantly shows his rear end about how much he doesn't know what the gently caress he's talking about.

Cheer Up Boss Dharma

In goofy translation notes, the penultimate panel is most likely referring to Dharma's superiors as if he is thinking of the specific people with those titles. I deliberately chose the nonintuitive interpretation of his wondering which rank the person who is calling him has because the English translations of Korean management titles are very long and unwieldy. I can barely make them fit in the panel there's just one of them, let alone two that both require definite articles.

Gastro is the darker skinned one and the latest story reveals she's a trans girl who is still processing that and working through what that means, when the comic has presented her as a boy up until now. Phobia is her mom, a mediocre adventurer and (initially) single mother. The comic is about their adventures in Totally Historically Accurate Ancient Greece!

It is so good. I love the fact that he basically gets taken down with no real issue instead of a drawn-out fight. He doesn't realize that he was basically never the hunter in this scenario and gets completely annihilated for it. For someone who allegedly researched Modesty and Willie completely he had no idea what he brought upon himself and his cohorts.

Some Guy TT
Aug 30, 2011

The whole story feels oddly anticlimactic. Usually Modesty and Willy's main handicap is that they don't have time to plan. Either through necessity or choice they're usually dealing with much fewer resources than this.
