Some Guy TT posted:The whole story feels oddly anticlimactic. Usually Modesty and Willy's main handicap is that they don't have time to plan. Either through necessity or choice they're usually dealing with much fewer resources than this. Which was Kromm's first mistake. "I'm going to isolate you two and threaten one another with punishment of the other if you act up. Then I'm going to give you a couple days to just sit there and think. Then I'm going to send one of you to the island two days in advance. I see no downside to doing this." Because he just figured "oh I'll just track them by the bugs I cleverly put in their outfits which they totally will not find" What "research" did this idiot actually do?

In today's Blueberry: Another thing I've learned that this book probably is incorrect about - the Apaches aren't likely to have shouted 'Hooka hey/Hokahey' - according to the general internet is a Sioux phrase, specifically of the Teton Lakota people, made famous for being one of the battle cries Crazy Horse and his men used when fighting Custer's incursions, bascially meaning 'Let's go!'. Since the Sioux lands reside in the Minnesota-Dakota-Northern Iowa region (as far as I can make out), I think it would be highly unlikely that Apaches in the Arizona-New Mexico region would use this phrase, or I hope you like Gris' drawings of the desert, 'cause boy are we gonna see a lot of it over the next few updates!, or Blueberry gets a rude awakening

Transmodiar posted:Modesty Blaise You have to admire Modesty and Willie's devotion to only killing those who are trying to kill them, but I'd also argue that this entire scenario is one big attempt to kill them. Details like "is the bad guy facing me" might have ethical weight in other circumstances, but here it seems all but irrelevant. They're trying to kill you, whichever way they might be facing.

TBH all the recent Modesty Blaise arcs seems to exist only as excuses to show the main characters in skimpy animal skins. I don't mean just this one, there was one from a few months ago that had them on the set of some fantasy movie, and then the set of a caveman movie before that?...

Just got a Patreon update from John Allison talking about the history of Circus Windows where he mentions that he'd planned out Wicked Things for a much longer run, but it was cancelled because of low sales. It's a tragedy, although he's probably right when he mentions both the pandemic and the 'this was a really bad year to write a law-enforcement-centric series'. Circus Windows is in many ways about Lottie's recovery from that and his recovery of how much he enjoys writing her. Really, it's a shame that more comics artists don't just get a Draw Whatever You Want grant.

It kind of works in a 'boss is outdated + out of touch, and doesn't understand the basics of the tools they use in the workplace!' way, but that's probably not what Holbrook intended it to be. I bet the employees are pretending like they're fooled so that they can say flattering things behind her back. While only the dumbest employees actually get tricked and talk earnestly about her.

Just thinking about how the most interesting part of this arc-- the actual confrontation between Tara and her cousin and her getting run over and maybe even injured-- Team Evans just raced through as quickly as possible so they could spend most of this week on... sitting around a table and talking about how rad that poo poo just was. We didn't even get to see the cousin being arrested and Tara just got a skinned knee. I'm not saying I'm surprised or anything. Just something I'm thinking about as we look at day 5 of Tell Don't Show week.
