Meanwhile, somewhere in Grove, work begins on next season's Williams F1 car...

If there are any computer touchers of the coding variety looking for a job, a position on my team is now live on the Williams careers page.

C#, Python, MatLab with most of the Microsoft stuff thrown in to make it nearly fullstack.

Mostly C# at the moment but we switch up depending upon the requirements of the project, so open to anyone who can handle cracking on with their job whilst getting laughed at by their friends and family on the regular when the car still sucks.

I'm up to Monaco '96, which is the highlight in a pretty dull season. Irvine is really bad, lmao - losing in a battle to position to Panis and nearly spearing into the wall at the harpin, then spinning right before the tunnel and causing both Salo and Hakkinen to run into him.

The '96 Ligier has a neat paint scheme;

No reason you couldn't apply if something came up. They're often quite specialised and usually ask for some experience of working with wind tunnels, unless it's entry level.

Mustache Ride posted:

Two wind tunnels (but only allowed to use one for F1 development by the regulations).

Of all the horrible countries with appalling human rights records that you could pick for a Grand Prix, Saudi Arabia has to be right up there with North Korea or Syria or the Democratic Republic of Congo. But they've got shitloads of oil money, so even without Bernie, F1 gotta F1.

And the track looks like rear end. It may be a "street circuit", but there's gently caress-all actually on those streets. Even Valencia was at least right there in the port, but this is on a big stretch of nothing five miles from the city centre.

I will take entry level in f1. I’m pretty much a entry level vehicle dynamicist for non racing right now. Coming up on one year soon. Yay!

On the plus side, glamorous* world travel and the chance to teach foreign racing drivers a load of British obscenities!

I once put a display plus shift lights into my simracing wheel and even wrote crappy embedded software to hook it up to my telemetry server, even 3d printed all the parts necessary. Seeing Williams can't do that, I assume you need someone like me yes/no?

It's on the mid-to-high end you'd expect in the local area for software and engineering type positions. The only travelling I've ever had to do offsite is for presentations at universities etc.

Is it actually a disadvantage for the drivers? I assume that they don't look on the screen during turns anyway, and the screen beeing further away might make it easier/quicker to adjust focus from track to screen and back? (then again, it's just couple of centimetres). Wiring might be more complex though, I guess?
