Not that it's easy, but they're no worse than the Paranid sections. You can make symmetrical bases with them if that floats your spaceboats, but it is annoying.

I'm making really good profit in Titan with Hydrogen/Methane and 2nd Contact with Ore/Silicon and have my HQ set up as just a ware trading station with a few traders buying and selling stuff from the storage.

OwlFancier

Silicon is still quite available and does about 100k a run with a good teladi miner, and is in demand in a lot of places. Gas can be pretty good but I don't know how much of it is really needed in the long run.

Ore is neede in large volumes but is not as expensive, nividium I've had a lot of trouble getting hold of in any volume, I think honestly it might be better to mine that yourself and target the nodes on the rock to maximise yield. But a good first station to set up is the hull parts chain, which uses refined metal plates from ore, so it's a viable early input ware for processed goods.

I also found a seeming concentration of inventory crystals in the radioactive sections of The Void, so I don't know if perhaps they pushed the crystals to more dangerous locations?

It was just the cheapest and easiest thing I've got around lol, got a methane miner in Grand Exchange and I'm tossing a silicon one up there once it gets me a few more bucks. I sent my kestrel to buy the silicon carbide because traders won't; I take it back, the trading and mining stuff is significantly easier now, it's great

The autopilot clipped me inside an asteroid and I had to juke my way out so that hasn't improved lol. It also declared it Epically Failed

I've also discovered the main ring, I assume, so things are starting to make sense with that. I hosed the map up again by alt-tabbing and now I have a thousands of kilometers long sector though

Collision detection is tied to frame rate and you can sometimes clip into things if you move quickly and have very low fps, like when you're using borderless windowed mode and you're doing something on a different monitor.

The first teleportation tech of the PHQ is a life saver. Collision detection is turned off in low-attention areas, which is basically everything outside a generous radius around the player ship.

I haven't gotten up into mining in this version yet, but my understanding of it since 4.00 is: outright necessary in any system you want to mine from, otherwise your little idiots won't know what resources are in-system at all.
Actually maybe this is more helpful than me.

EDIT: eyyy, first hotfix/beta patch for 4.00 adds the Argon docking site to Terran players so they don't have to haul Terran bullshit into Grand Exchange to build the HQ dock:

quote:

Version: 4.00 Hotfix 1 Beta 1 (433264) - 2021-03-18 [Nice Fixes!]

- Fixed sometimes not entering superhighways during travel mode.
- Fixed not being able to claim abandoned Rapier.
- Fixed Solborn Militia Outpost not respawning when destroyed.
- Fixed ship Silverback in Defenders of Sol mission getting stuck.
- Fixed Wartime Economics mission getting stuck in dialog cutscene when entering Savage Spur II with map open.
- Fixed ship delivery objective in Towards Distant Shores mission failing unintentionally.
- Fixed rescue ship in Terran gamestart Displaced mission sometimes being very far away.
- Fixed missing Argon dock blueprint for player during Displaced mission in Terran gamestarts.
- Fixed ship to escort in Escape Plan mission sometimes not moving to station.
- Fixed missions sometimes not continuing when saved and loaded during dialogue.
- Fixed Wartime Economics mission getting stuck if last Xenon flees instead of being destroyed.
- Fixed missing Preferred Build Method option for resupply ships.
- Fixed order icons in Object List and Property Owned menus not showing correct order when using Repeat Orders
- Fixed wrong station construction state in Station Build menu under certain circumstances.
- Fixed Encyclopedia errors if no engines are known.
- Fixed several causes of crashes.

The Split station modules are the best in the game, you're just going about it wrong.

Here's a quick hull part thing I just whipped up in the station designer. You'll have to use your imagination a little bit because it's the transparent outlines, but you get the idea. Make cool hexagons and spiral patterns, not boring grids.

So I think the mining changes might have gone too far. I played a 200hr game back last year on Beta 4 and I didn't have much problem using the resource probes to guide miners around.

Now it seems the entire map is 100% depleted of resources, my miners are taking hours to collect enough ore to fill their holds now and most stations don't have enough to produce resources. It doesn't seem to matter where I look for it, Xenon sectors say they have a ton of resources in the Info tab but if you put down a probe there's like 0.005 kg ore or silcon there and it's pretty uniform throughout the sector.

No idea how to get my economy going honestly like this. I have dozens of miners that aren't contributing anything now.

i think tamping down on the infinite resource spigot was pretty much the point. I haven't experienced this so far though I'm only ~6 game hours into converting my game to 4.0.

Even more reasons to murder every HOP ship I see

IMO it would work better if it had plots-like license system so you could 'own' valuable mining zones.

Be careful with that one. SCA ships have partial crews of total chumps, but last I checked a FAF rattlesnake is going to have a full crew of stone cold murderers. You can have a boarding crew with several SCA destroyers under their belt that will still be unceremoniously wiped by the FAF. Despite the name they do not faff about. :v:

Terran engines look like garbage stats-wise but they have near instantaneous acceleration into boost and travel mode that makes them shockingly good for getting around. I'd say it's weird that this isn't ever really documented anywhere but it's an Egosoft game so I expect nothing less.

Yeah I did find that out fast when the starting fighter out paced the free ship you are given from the HQ. Combat thrusters make even more sense since you can get instant speed from a single tap.

It also means you probably don't want mix fleets of terran size S/M ships since the S ships can't keep pace

The SPP in Mercury kinda isn't great. Pretty remote and I've not had a single NPC ever visit because other NPC's have plants in the area selling for lower than I can possibly lower my prices to. They sell for 8 my minimum is 10. I got some cargo ships selling stuff manually for now which is turning a profit but is kinda disappointing that it didn't bring in the kind of haul I wanted.

If you end up stuck in a rock, a good option is to put your ship under pilot control, they're smarter than the autopilot and can also glitch themselves out of rocks again. But yeah it does still stuff you into asteroids sometimes unfortunately, having someone else fly for you is more reliable generally.

You will need at least one gas miner at some point so it's not a bad thing to put down, I would just focus more on rock miners in the long run because I'm not sure how much gas demand there is and most of the commonwealth goods are derived from ore and silicon at some point so you want piles of them if you're setting up industry.

I'm fairly sure workforce is actually incredibly good because it increases the number of products you get but not the resources you consume, which basically means it flat out adds profit to any production run. And if you combine that with doing multiple processing steps where you make products and then feed them into other productions, it compounds the effect, so yeah you absolutely want workforce on your stations as soon as possible because they are super good at increasing your profitsss.

Yeah see this is what I was expecting, the ecell economy is just totally flooded all the time in the game because they're so trivial to make. Just because you can make a lot of them doesn't mean that it's necessarily very useful. You would probably do better putting one in Jupiter or somewhere where there aren't any other stations nearby, it won't be efficient but you will at least be the only one making them. But broadly ecells just aren't a viable trade good, they're only really good for feeding your own stations where they just need a constant supply of them.
