paul_soccer12 posted:the idpol bluemaga set smugly intoning that black people werent having no bernie after he lost SC, ignoring the fact that it was old whites who gave the state to biden Sadly, this post is entirely wrong. The "black twitter aint havin no Bernie" tweet predated the SC primary by a bunch, I think it was 2018. Also, Bernie did better against Biden in every age bracket of white folks in said primary. In the over 60's, Biden won by 30 points for white folks, and 66 points for black folks . The only age bracket Bernie won with black voters in SC was the under 30s, where he beat Biden by 2 points. In the under 30 white folks in SC, Biden got 4th place, 42 points behind Bernie, and also well behind Mayo Pete and Snakewoman. This makes perfect sense, as there are a whole bunch of black conservatives in the south that would happily be Republicans if it weren't for all the "open ethnofascism", and "squealing about how much they wanna say the N-word without consequences". Edit: in fact, doing the math, it looks like removing the old (over 45) white voters actually improves Bidens margins, because while he won that group, he did so by less of a margin than he won the average of "under 45 white voters+all black voters". One More Fat Nerd posted:Sadly, this post is entirely wrong. something else to consider is that Bernie's campaign strategy did not involve any significant outreach in SC. The plan was to win the first three states and then this victory would result in everyone recognizing Bernie as the candidate. Voices within Bernie's campaign were horrified that this was the plan and did attempt to force a new direction, but at the end of the day, the people Bernie selected to run his campaign and even Bernie himself had a different idea. It is astonishing how much better ran his 2016 campaign was. And consider that Bernie had four years to build a team and make a plan.

Bernie Sanders' slapdash 2016 campaign was a far, far better operation compared to his carefully prepared 2020 campaign! The ladder climbers and nonprofit experts Bernie surrounded himself with are in reality incapable of running a campaign, except to run it into the ground.

the weird thing was that a common justification i read from the black voters who supported biden was specifically that they felt that white americans would never, ever vote for a socialist or anyone that challenged the status quo too much. biden was the best they could expect whites to support. in that sense, the white biden supporters bragging about their black allies came across as rather pathetic.

Bernie did himself no favors in this by both telling everyone that Joe Biden was exactly like him and to say many times in public that someone other than him could win the election.

I remember being told for years that the 2020 bernie campaign had a strategy to do better with southern dems than they did in 2016, and its hilarious that it turned out the strategy was "win before southern dems have a chance to vote". Also, I'm not sure 2016 was actually a better operation, but it was running against a genuinely worse candidate. CSPAM knows Biden is and always has been garbage, but he had way better favorables than Clinton did at any point in the primary. Bernie benefitted from being the only serious option running against the most widely hated pol the dems have ever let win a primary. Maybe the next leftist will do better.

yeah, the unfortunate conclusion i have reached is that a lot Bernie's 2016 support was derived from the fact that he was not Hillary.
