Nonsense posted:Why is this considered some form of conspiracy? Police don't pay for poo poo especially not patrol vehicles, of course it's a plant. I thought it came out of a budget, which is managed by high rank officers who are accountable for it, who rely on getting good value to get promoted to more senior management positions and go up the government pay scale.

The police get awfully grumpy when stuff like this happens and will go to considerable lengths to track participants down: why on earth would you be there without a face covering? I mean there's no excuse: everyone's got like half a dozen masks at this point.

Whether it’s a conspiracy to plant a van is neither here nor there really. What matters is they’re really not bothered about it being torched because it’s a useful propaganda tool. The intentionality of it doesn’t really matter (as with all conspiracy theories)

They are there, unattended, all day every day. I know this because I walked past them every day for 5+ years. They weren’t protected on the day because they were too busy failing to protect their shiny police station instead.

If they really cared about their vans not being on fire they'd paint them in that mottled gray-rear end paint that the RUC defenders used which I think they got by asking nice protestors to set them on fire repeatedly until there was nothing left to burn.

In related ACAB news (e: CW, sexual assault), I didn't see this posted over the weekend: there were 594 sexual misconduct complaints against Met officers between 2012 and 2018. Of these, 119 were upheld. Of these, only 63 led to dismissals/resignations. As a matter of employment law you only need reasonable grounds for suspicion to dismiss someone. Imagine in any other job, getting accused of raping someone whilst on the clock & just getting a verbal warning for it. Wouldn't happen. I'm engaged in a bit of a back-and-forth with local police & a councillor atm because I would very much appreciate it if people would stop raping my students, the pigs are basically just outright denying the victims' lived experiences of dealing with them, in light of everything else that's going on I'm absolutely loving livid & it is beyond me how anybody has any faith in the police at all in TYOOL 2021. My hot take is that the Bristol protestors can be absolutely condemned for burning unoccupied police vehicles when there must surely have been plenty driving round with the officers still in them. I would be surprised if police vehicles needed to be MOT'd to be honest as I'd imagine they'd have their own internal inspection procedures. I know from my own job that taxis don't usually need to be MOT'd as long as they're only be used for work as the testing required to be plated generally overrides the need for the MOT. What's more likely is it became old enough to be due it's MOT according the DVLA website in January but hasn't had one due to not requiring one.

The French will light up any police car they see at the drop of a chapeau and their protests tends to be pretty successful in getting the government to reconsider unpopular legislation. Real mystery why the government trying to pass legislation reducing the right to protest and its supporters would claim that the protest against it is ineffective and discredited.
