Have you considered that brexit was just a proxy issue and is dropped as soon as politically convenient.

he had a ton of money behind him from dodgy donors and the other 2 candidates were an even bigger wet wipe at the time and someone who seems really keen on national socialism. only like 60% of members voted and he ran as someone who'll keep corbyns policies but be more competent. to a highly demoralised membership it was really easy for him to win

genuinely people hadn't heard him speak before i think and once you learn how he sounds you realise he's not electable

I just realised that previous to Keef winning the leadership every time I saw him live he was just standing there while John Mcdonnell was saying something stirring from somewhere offscreen. I imagine that was most peoples experience.

RLB also hosed it massively and was not helped by the rags highlighting every fart. To be fair if she had ever got close to winning the tabloids would have made something up anyway.

If you want to support the most left wing party likely to win seats at Holyrood then vote Green. Or if you don't mind your vote making no difference then there's the Scottish Socialist Party, which for a pleasant change is a Trot party that doesn't seem overloaded in sexpests from my experience.

there’s that graph showing trust in media just collapsing for Republicans but shooting up for Democrats, and i wonder if a similar thing was at play, where a significant chunk of the voter base were just so desperate for media validation. If so, i could imagine the argument working that this pink-blobby guy would be a more respectable face for corbyns policies but with media support

This was the explicit reason a lot of people voted for him

Starmer basically offered 2 things:

- an end to the factional infighting
- continuing Corbyns most popular policies but with a professional, media friendly sheen

Important to note that Starmer hasn't cultivated a strong base of support in the party - even in the PLP there aren't really any "Starmerites", and he won over the membership by brazenly lying to them. When the right decide to go for him he will be gone pretty much instantly
