Georgians are very chill about most things such as marijuana but utterly backwards in terms of gay rights or rights of women. I am not 100% sure about rights of women, because they built a society where women have a lot of power over their suitors but lose it as soon as they get married, and them get another kind of power, very weird women power.

Russian news agency RIA reports of a pretty :stonk: air force accident at a military airfield near Kaluga involving a Tu-22M strategic bomber. Not a crash, which have happened in recent years. No, this sounds way worse, for some reason.

The plane was parked at the airstrip ready for flight, when the crew ignited engines - and somehow, launched the ejection seats. :stare: Oh yes, did I mention the 22M ejection seats FIRE DOWNWARD FROM THE COCKPIT and require a 250 metre clearance?? EDIT:I mistook the older Tu-22 model which had this 'feature', Tu-22M has it fixed. All three crew members, including the regiment's commander, died. :ussr:

Russia seems to have a lot of these aircraft failures compared to other militaries. I doubt when these aircraft were originally deployed decades ago Soviet designers were expecting them to be deployed this long into the 21st century. The 5th generation Russian fighter will only have 12 units built and is delayed years, shows you how bad things are.

Croatia Show!

X - X - * - X - X

Zagreb's mayor of 20 years died of heart attack three weeks ago, just three months before local elections. He was ultra-corrupt and many were hoping he'll finally lose the elections and go to prison. As soon as he died, rumors and memes started spreading about a deadly cocaine/viagra/young lover combination. At the same time, his friends were very eager to tell in detail how he died at a dinner at their place. Ambulance logs and other details began to surface, which proved that he was in fact at the home of his young blonde associate. The one he was spotted with recently at a fur coat shop, for which he offered no explanation. Then some activist brought criminal charges against the lover because she had apparently panicked and fumbled around, calling mutual friends and hoping he'll come to, instead of calling the ambulance immediately. In theory that can be constructed as a refusal to provide life-saving aid, which is a criminal offense. So by law the police has to investigate.

It's schadenfreude but I welcome all the poo poo that will tarnish his image because in 10 years people will start remembering him fondly.

X - X - * - X - X

Only days after that, Zdravko Mamić and his brother Zoran got a non-appealable sentence. Zdravko is the capo of Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian football in general, and Zoran was Dinamo's manager. Zdravko was as corrupt as Bandić but in a different way. His wealth came mostly from taking illegal cuts from Dinamo players' transfers (including Luka Modrić, Dejan Lovren, etc) and treating Dinamo as his personal property even though it's formally a citizens association. This of course includes bribing game officials, influencing who'll play in the national team, etc.

A few years ago he got a first degree (appealable) verdict so he made a move that's popular among Croatian crooked politicians and businessmen - he moved to Bosnia. It's easy to get a dual citizenship and Bosnia doesn't extradite their citizens. From Bosnia he appealed and remained active, including for instance leading prayers at the Međugorje pilgrimage.

The sentence was announced only a day before Dinamo played against Tottenham in the Europa league. Zoran, a member of his brother's criminal organization but also a competent manager, immediately resigned. His team, managed by Zoran's assistant, trashed Mourinho's side 3-0 and kicked them out the competition.

Zdravko, a narcissist loud-mouth that he is, decided he's taking everyone with him. It turns out he gave last fall extremely detailed information about bribing the judges who worked on his case to the anti-corruption agency. They didn't do anything with it and now that the hammer fell, he posted it all on Facebook. The level of detail is amazing, and includes embarrassing details like taking this judge and his lover and the lover's daughter to Dubai (all dates, hotels, receipts available), and giving that judge Louis Vuitton shoes, etc. This goes to the President of the Supreme Court. Zdravko continues to post information and memes every couple of hours, under #reformapravosuđa. That's like Al Capone posting from Mexico under #judiciaryreform.

Yeah, it's just US Russ and China are flying far more sorties than most other countries. They have 4,000 planes. The next biggest European area country has 400.

I think it was the last straw, because not all coalition parties agreed with it. But PM had conflicts with two smaller coalition parties (of 4 party coalition) since the formation of cabinet about a year ago. It's partly ideological conflict, because one of the smaller parties is libertarian/liberal and they disagreed with lockdowns because of their effects on economy, while PM's party is conservative and PM was against the easing of restrictions. The other smaller party is also more anti-Russian and criticized purchase of Sputnik and especially the press conference after its arrival, because it served Russian propaganda very well.
But I guess larger and more important factor in their conflict is PMs personality. He enjoys conflict, even with his coalition partners, he enjoys being active on social media and he is quick to blame others, he blamed COVID deaths on liberal party minister (which is probably partly true) and even on scientists and experts that critized government's pandemic response, while avoiding any blame for current COVID situation and second wave, even though minister of health from his party did nothing during the summer/autumn to prepare for it and PMs obsession with and reliance on mass testing to solve surge in COVID cases was unfounded and even disastrous.
Anyway, conflicts escalated recently and two smaller parties proclaimed that current PM and (former) minister of health are unfit to hold their positions. To solve the crisis, minister of health stepped down and it seemed that the crisis is over, because they had some kind of agreement, but then PM on a press conference attacked two smaller parties and again avoided any blame. This led to further escalation of a crisis and two smaller parties now want PM to resign.
Meanwhile, second largest party is trying to avoid any attention and pretends to be a voice of reason, but they do it only because they had some scandals recently that tanked their party in polls. One of those scandals is that head of a secret service nominated by this party stepped down after being investigated for corruption, which led to a resignation of one of their ministers as a way to protest this investigation (lol).
And currently it seems that two smaller parties are exchanging resignations of some of their ministers in return for a resignation of PM as a way to solve the crisis, because none of them want early elections, which would probably mean return of corrupt parties that ruled before (btw, if nothing else, it really seems that investigators finally have free hands even when it comes to investigation of corruption among politicians).
Of course, this is not really helping to solve COVID epidemic and many people are frustrated with current government.

Meanwhile in Estonia... Appendicitis has claimed a life. In a hospital. Because doctors and nurses are busy with covid and nobody had enough time for her. Fever? Off to the corona ward you go... She was 36. Somebody else got into a car accident, broke her arm and had to wait two days for an operation.
Elderly care homes are now off-limits to relatives. But apparently workers in one of those places managed to catch covid anyway and infect the entire place. Vaccination is voluntary and it's suspected that the staff persuaded people under their care not to be vaccinated. Medical workers discovered that these elderly people were then kept locked up and couldn't even get water. So now there's a police investigation on-going. The staff still plays dumb, which they probably are. Elderly care seriously lacked in this country even before the pandemic. Unless one has money, of course.

Last weekend we had some gatherings of flat earthers and other loonies, united by the common cause of not liking covid restrictions. It looked like some sort of a russian troll factory project. Here's one cringy "patriotic" video: https://old.reddit.com/r/Eesti/comments/ma5pe1/jahubanaanide_kogunemine_v%C3%B5i_%C3%BChe_erakonna/
Here's a notable example of one participant from the same event in another part of the country: https://i.redd.it/has8zsuaw8o61.jpg
I bet that black color on that flag used to be red, which would make it something else. Because Estonian flag is blue-black-white, in that order.

Then there's the issue with vaccinations, aside from AZ dragging their feet with supplying EU. A certain segment of the population, mostly Russians, don't want any of this western poison. They want sputnik V, which we don't have and will never have. Their districts are much more affected by the virus. A friend of my sister is a nurse and said that they (the nurses) were offered Pfizer in January, some of whom refused and are now ill.

Now I wish other countries banned travelers from Estonia because we seem to be unwilling to close our borders. Better get all different strains from all over the world in here, let's see which one is the deadliest.

Want an anecdote? A nurse that lives in my town had a visit from the police a week ago in late evening, they delivered her a memo telling her she has to go work in a covid hospital. The kicker is, she wasn't vaccinated yet due to kidney related health issues AND she is awaiting an urgent (read: prescribed a long time ago) spine surgery in April. She is trying to appeal to the Ministry of Health right now.

One of the ministers (from the conservative racist party) in our previous government coalition looked down on your cashier-turned-prime minister. Well who's laughing now... That previous coalition also sowed the seeds for the current disaster and even though now we also have a girls' government, they seem to be staying true to the previous course.
