The incredibly lovely job of covering how bad the accusations really are has made me consider that hiring a showboater clown as your lawyer is probably a good move.

The only time I’ve seen the common man at FH (50s, from south Florida, mad at the world) defend Watson was against these women so... i can’t imagine what PFT comments look like

Anyone else wondering if Watsons deciding he wanted out of Houston was affected by his own knowledge of these incidents, fears about potential legal trouble or discussion/rumours about these issues within the Texans front office?

Watson had absolutely no idea this was a big deal or unlawful behavior as recently as last week. One of his victims said the incident occurred less than three weeks ago. This poo poo has absolutely nothing to do with trading or anything. The Texans aren't involved, and Watson couldn't have imagined that this could be a bad thing for him. He's done this hundreds of times in his life.

He just said "don't tell anyone about this." That's standard celebrity stuff. They're going to ask everyone they interact with to say nothing. He did this with a woman in Atlanta, Georgia on March 3. Someone doesn't behave in this fashion if they think they may actually face consequences. There’s no indication that if he successfully got himself traded that he’d stop this behavior in his new city. He’d have just kept doing this poo poo until it caught up with him.

I'm sure everybody in this forum does something bad they would prefer people not find out about, but don't think it's bad enough to actually stop. I knew someone in college who wasn't quite this lovely with women, but was pretty God drat lovely, and he just basically convinced himself that they were like pranks or practical jokes. Minimalizing your gently caress-ups internally is basic human nature.

Declan MacManus posted:this is a weapons grade awful take buddy Yeah you're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying he's correct to say that sexually assaulting people is not a big deal. I'm saying it's very normal for people to take behavior that the vast majority of folks would consider extremely unacceptable and explain away their own practices as not that bad because x or y. You see that from people who serially commit offenses as small as littering and as big as loving murder. It's super common for people who commit sexual assault or sexual harassment to describe it as a prank or a joke. It doesn't justify it but it explains how somebody could commit the same bad activities several times and not feel the need to alter their behavior or even necessarily feel all that bad about it. That's the reason when someone commits a crime one of the prerequisites for being punished isn't that they feel bad about it. And when I'm saying that everybody has bad or immoral activities that they don't want to get caught doing but don't care enough to stop I'm not pulling a Terrell Prior. For me it's drinking too much, for you it might be talking poo poo behind people's backs or smoking or petty theft or or or or or.

^^^^^^ I knew a dude in college who was waaaaay too aggressive hitting on women and made everyone uncomfortable. To my knowledge he never did anything physical but it wouldn't surprise me. He was completely immune to criticism. It's not human nature to harass women but it is human nature to aggressively minimalize your faults I fail to see how "people convince themselves that lovely things aren't lovely all the time" is some nuclear take. Rationalization and transparent cognative dissonance was part of how Weinstein and Cosby defended themselves and explained their actions. Most human beings justify their immorality and amorality in the same ways and it's just a matter of scale as to how much they have to spin. About 6 years ago, last Wednesday, people in this thread were talking about how common it is for massage therapists to be harassed. I strongly feel like if you treat bad people as some sort of total mystery it makes it harder for you to evaluate your own actions and your own personal morality. Black Sunshine posted:If he would've said "everyone has probably done SOMETHING* that was kinda lovely and wish they could take back" then I'd agree. But yeah, bad take. This is like exactly opposite of the point that I'm making though. What I'm saying is we all do lovely things that we don't wish we could take back and we probably will do again because we have some sort of internal justification for doing it. When someone like Watson does something like this over and over and over again Occam's razor says he's made some sort of internal decision that it's okay to continue doing it. That's obviously a massive and inexcusable failing on his part. I hope and expect that no one posting in the football funhouse has such a severe example of it, but it's a good reminder to think critically about your actions and try and catch yourself when you're giving yourself excuses to continue doing something you feel ethically uncomfortable about.
