Would animated dazzle camo be more or less effective than the old static?

Probably less. The entire point of it is to break up the visual outline and moving objects are nearly always easier to notice and more well-defined to the human eye than stationary ones.

What if the camoflage moved relative to the vehicle in order to stay static relative to the surroundings?

More. The point of dazzle camo is to make it difficult to judge the boat's heading and velocity. The ideal would be fake animated keel waves in directions you arent traveling.

Probably more actually. Dazzle camouflage didn't exist to stop you from seeing the ship. It was supposed to make it harder for enemies to calculate range and bearing.

Yeah, I didn't mean that it stops you from seeing it, I meant it makes it harder to tell its shape and orientation. The animation makes the edges more clearly defined, to my eyes.

Way back when I was first getting rolling on this project (I forget, maybe six months in?), they announced their game, and I had an immediate crisis of "someone ate my lunch before I even had a chance." One of the devs reached out though and we had a nice chat. They actually enquired if I was interested in working on the project, but certainly at the time I was much more interested in having full creative control over what I made.

I also wanted to make a different kind of game. Like, we're both doing design-your-own-ship naval combat simulators, but theirs is way more grounded and realistic, and mine is much more arcadey. So while their game puts emphasis on things like how well-armored your citadel is, or how up-to-date the fuzes are on your shells, mine is more "how many guns can I fit onto this patch of real estate? :downs:" They're both totally legitimate styles of game, but I'm pretty sure I'm a lot happier doing my game instead of their game, simply because I don't have the depth of interest in naval combat mechanics that they do.

I love this guy's stuff. They're all pretty in depth and like 30-60 minutes so I don't get to watch them too often but whenever I do it's a treat. Good editing, good little twists (like when he seems to run up against dead ends in this or that challenge, but then overcomes it with something even crazier), all for the sake of showing that doing X ridiculous thing is technically possible

I used to love Ymfah's stuff, too. I thought it was super funny, so when he started up a Patreon I decided to sub to it. That got me auto-added to his Discord server where I, of course, got redirected to the welcome channel with rules in it:

He streams it on twitch, the youtube uploads are edited compilations of his stream stuff. So each video is probably a week+ of several hour streams.
